From Extravagance to Simplicity: My Journey Towards Minimalism and Responsible Spending

I used to be an extravagant spender, but that was when I had just one child. There wasn't much responsibility for me then, and all I could think about was what to spend on, which was the latest trend or fashion. There were lots of useless products I purchased then, which annoys me at the sight of them these days. I guess I should just roll most of them into the bin so I can quickly forget those days as an extravagant spender.

My husband tried advising me that not everything I set my eyes on is something I must buy; instead, I should consider the usefulness of it and think through it before making a decision, but I didn't care since I was working then with a fat salary. Something like an investment didn't even cross my mind then; it was all about the expensive things to buy in order to look classy. I only came back to my senses when I was done with the job, as it was a well-paid temporary internship program. Some of my friends then used their earnings to invest in land, which gave them millions of dollars after a few years. It was only then that I regretted my actions and detested my extravagant spending to date.

We don't need to be large spenders before we can have a great life. I have embraced a minimalistic lifestyle, which is moderation with spending.

I think having too many responsibilities nowadays contributed to my new lifestyle, which has become part of me, and I like it coupled with the harsh economy that has befallen us today.
It's interesting to see how most people buy very expensive clothing, food, entertainment, and other products that could represent a liability. Talking about spending extravagantly on clothing, these are fashions and trends that don't last long. Before you know it, another style will start trending, and the urge to shop will cloud your mind. However, consumer spending provokes production and economic growth, but if it doesn't affect individual growth, then it doesn't add up. Gone are those days when I would keep purchasing useless items. Shopping used to be one of my expensive hobbies then, but not anymore. I wouldn't say I am lucky to have such an expensive hobby—not luck, if I should be sincere, but a financial draining hobby. I could hardly enter the shopping mall without buying irrelevant things back then. This is why my husband detested going to the mall with me those days; do not look at me with one kind eye. Hehehe, I have changed for good. If nothing was able to change that extravaganza in me back then, at least our economy has succeeded in changing that. I do not hesitate to calculate my expenses and invest as little as 5 dollars in a crypto coin that I feel has the potential to give me little profit in the future. I have been practicing smart buying and resisting shopping for irrelevant products.

Talking about extravagant celebrations, I can't remember engaging in such a lifestyle of excessive materialism. Even when I did my wedding, I was thoughtful of life after the event, and that made me avoid spending extravagantly for the celebration. However, it's common for most people to spend extravagantly whenever a huge amount of money enters their account, perhaps out of joy, while most people also engage in extravagant celebrations for the sake of flaunting unnecessary stuff.

In summary, coming across this topic from Inleo speaks more about the old me as that careless extravagant spender. It's annoying that I couldn't utilize my money back then on relevant things. Who knows, I should be reaping from a cool investment, but fashion and trend took over me. Today, when I pick up those expensive clothes I bought then, they are out of fashion. I believe we don't need to spend a lot in order to live a quality lifestyle.

Thank you for reading.❤❤

Sometimes, when I sit back to calculate how much I could have saved today if I had been wise in the past, I would feel bad about myself. I am not an extravagant spender, but when I buy items, I do not think through and when I have purchased them would I realise I do not need it at all. But now, no one taught me to sit tight and start saving and investing for the future and there is a big change now.

Shopping is one of the most common habits of human specially women in their earlier age. Fortunately most of them understand about it and come out from the situation and in your case it's happened. Just imagine what if you invested in land in your earlier time the situation of you could be much better.

@intishar I feel like taking back the hands of clock ⌚⏰
The painful part is that now that I am more aware of nice investment, the kind of money I touched those days are nowhere to be found

Seriously, the economy has really thought us to cut our clothes according to the material available no longer according to our sizes again 😂
It's a good thing you change, it's better to spend on things that matters.
