The morning after the EMOM

avatar

Last night was absolutely amazing, check out my previous post to learn more about the event which was an Electronic Music Open Mic (EMOM) night at the excellent Old Street Records in London. If you know London at all, this is the area known as Shoreditch. Quite a hip and trendy place these days but never used to be, perhaps even a decade ago. Changed massively.

I performed last night, the third act and in the end we had 8 artists. I was so focused on my set that i forgot to record any of it to play back later, nor did i take photos of my setup on the stage. However if you have seen my posts of late, it’s pretty much the system that I’ve been developing over the past few weeks.

Anyway, I did take photos of the other performers and their instruments.

The whole thing went very smoothly, was well received by the audience and there was plenty of chat afterwards about the gear we use and our techniques.

Every artist has something totally different.

People came from all over the South of England as well as London plus we had a couple from Chicago in the audience.

Looks like a fun night. Musicians love to talk about gear.

I know what you mean about not recording your own performance. I've failed on that plenty of times.

I was kind of nervous but I’d prepared for it pretty well, then an element of doubt crept in and i nearly changed it all last minute… thankfully I stopped myself from doing that, stuck to my plan and dived in.

It sounded epic and I found my way through it, improvising quite a bit and at about 8 minutes in, brought it into land. Tempted to kick it back in again for a reprise but thought, no, let’s park it. Done well. Pleased etc!

Oh my God, Nick! I had no idea you had mad skills like this!!

I would love to see you perform sometime!

Congrats on such a special evening. I completely understand the no photos and no recording thing when you’re nervous until focused on a performance those things are totally peripheral.

Good on you!

Thank you. Yes all of those things slipped my mind but it doesn’t matter, I’ll do it again and record next time.

The next one of these will be either February or March. I’ll let you know and we’ll promote this via Eventbrite and Dice.fm again.

I’ll be having a think about other venues where i might tootle along to with my synth gear and join others in making some wild noises or in my case ambient/techno

Completely fascinating! Brilliant ways to promote!!

I’ve been performing in the UK and France this year, and simply haven’t written or posted about any of it.

Like, honestly, what’s with that?

Sometimes we like to separate things out in life don’t we? I’ve a few different social circles these days, thanks to kayaking, electronic music and other things. I often wonder what would happen if I invited all of those people to the same place for a bit of a party, how they’d get on?

Being a polymath can be hard because a lot of people may focus on just one or try things, then there are crazy people like me who are into so many things!
