Recording my Roland Aira S-1 into Loopy Pro on my iPad
I have been having a load of fun with the Roland Synth since it landed on my desk last week, still lots to
learn about it as it's packed with features but the sound is just so wonderfully classic. I talk more about it
in this video, so not going to repeat myself here too much.
If you want to learn more about the product, then head over to Roland's website
I sound bunged up in the recording, bad hayfever!!

Very interesting. I have a Novation Circuit and I'm using a lot in studio and live.
I’ve been thinking about one of those at some point in time. Thanks for watching, much appreciated!
A good fun piece of kit!
I love it and also the other new product that arrived today is a brand new OP-1 Field. That’s my spending done for the year in music kit!
oh they are nice, enjoy that! its only June plenty of time....
I’m tempted by so many things. Anyway these synths will be great tools for my sound library project nonetheless.
You can get some amazing devices these days. Can you actually play things on the 'piano keys'? I see they do a whole range of modules in this format so you could build a very portable rig.
I think you need to turn off notifications when recording :)

First of all, yes, sloppy recording, I should have turned on do not disturb to avoid the messages. The keys are small, so if you have big hands, I can imagine it being a bit fiddly but there is a bit of space between them, I found it very playable.
Roland offer quite a few products in the range now, they can all be chained together in terms of audio and MIDI. In fact even if just connected directly via USB both Audio and MIDI are transmitted between host computer/ipad and the S-1 itself, so if I have my headphones plugged into the S-1 and I am also playing something on the iPad, a drumloop perhaps, they are mixed together.
Today I received another new synth gadget, which I also ordered, no more, no more, I have blown my budget good and proper now. I now also have a Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field, which is phenomenal. Pricey but when you consider it can do what a large synth can do but in a portable size, yeah, it's worth it and it is versatile enough to use for all tracks I create.
Both the Roland and the OP-1 are a huge amount of fun and can all fit on an average sized desktop!
I'm not up on current tech really. I did some playing around with MIDI back in the 80s, but it's moved on now. My drums have USB and I gather that does MIDI and audio. I need to play with that as it may give me more options when it comes to recording.
I know the Teenage Engineering stuff is pricey (even their desk!), but cool. I see various gadgets that tempt me, but I need to just get stuff I can really use.

These things are often packed with features that the big chunky manuals go into depth on. I like experimenting with them as I did when I opened the box today, turned it on and started playing with the tape recorder, it even has haptic feedback to make it feel like there is a tape in there. Everything gels together really well. Will have a jam later and do another video like this.
