A collection of sounds - we find a home for the Hive Sound Library
I hope you are all keeping well and I wanted to post something to this community to one say, I am still alive and so is this community project. In fact one of the key problems that was stalling it for a bit here and there was a lack of having a decent place to host the audio, that has been resolved thanks to the existence of https://samply.app a brilliant solution from Geneva, Wisconsin. It's not free but it is very well priced and the storage capacity is enough for our needs right now. I couldn't find a reliable solution in the Web3 space, so decided that this would have to be a hybrid solution in the end.
You should be able to access the Hive Sound Library via this link where you will be presented with the UI for Samply, the HSL main directory, it's sub directories leading to various sorts of sounds. Many of which you may find empty at this point in time but they won't be for long.

So having found somewhere to store our sounds for the library, I started populating it with some audio, which is the aim of today's post to share what we have so far, to create an index and perhaps update this post over and over in the future or duplicate it every time the index is updated.
What's even better is that you can upload audio to the collection but for the time being that will be invite only. To ask for an invite, simply leave a comment below and we can talk about it there.
A guide to the library
This is subject to change here and there but I am unlikely to rename any of the directories now, I will add new ones and perhaps further sub-directories etc.
Drums
https://samply.app/p/d2qMO7WlTFhSUVM9DvTM
Currently empty, so eager to get a little help from people such as @steevc @ale.dri (please tag other drummers guys). Drum recordings may be suited to loops, don't have to be because the idea of this project is to collaborate and create something on Hive.
I shall add some drum machine style loops of my own, I've got various recordings that can be shared here.
Field recordings
https://samply.app/p/1ClxkIAGcBaqkTALX0Jq
This folder has been broken down into a few folders but the most interesting one to date has to be the recording I captured of the Crofton Beam Engines in Wiltshire, I will be adding more of this sort of material as and when I have it.
Then there was the time we walked along The Ridgeway to Waylands Smithy and I recorded the simple sounds of the wind up on the hill and distant barking (deer).
Ambiences
https://samply.app/p/TmR4WT3obQzAVMBpLxCD
I recorded the sounds of a Synth designed for ambient music the other day and plan to record other similar instruments in the future. Can go very deep into this sort of thing and get lost but it is a great way to explore different synths.
AuV3 Guide

My exploration of different plugins for the iPad (later there will be other collections for VSTs etc). One such example was this piece I recorded using Axon 3, a melodic drum machine. Some of these recordings may include podcasts, where I talk through the use of these instrument plugins.
Finally to wrap up this launch post, there are folders for Podcasts, Sketches and Bass lines with more to follow over time.
It's an interesting project. What would you need in the way of drum samples? I could hit various bits of my kit in different ways. Would it work to have a file of different hits on each cymbal? Those can have a long decay. I don't have fancy microphones, but what I have could capture something.
One shot samples like that would be fabulous, Steve. Quality doesn’t matter massively, it will be lovely to have them. I can add some folders for One shots- name them using your handle as a prefix, the piece of kit such as cymbal, hat, kick and numbers on the end to make the file names unique.
I’ll add a new folder and send you the link.

I’ll open it for public upload for awhile but may turn off later. Or send an invite.
I'm not sure when I can do this. I could put files in a Google share and leave it to you to edit. I'll let you know when I have something.
No worries as and when. Google drive or Dropbox, Samply as direct integrations with Dropbox, hopefully Google soon. I can copy over anyway. All good.
Continuing from the above, yes different hits on the same cymbal would be great. Then I could have a go at making a beat out of them using a sampler and then share that on the library too.
I’d like to encourage contributors to the library to write a post in the community and share links to their samples.
I’ll look at curation style posts to highlight the latest sounds for people to listen to.
Sounds will be downloadable.
Excelente news! Thank you for the update. I'm glad to know that you are alive.
I’m all good, I needed to take a break for a bit.
I've been finding it difficult to make the time and gather the energy to post myself.
Great effort, Nick! Is the intention to create a sample library? It would be a very long and difficult job. In fact, it's not enough to just record a few sounds to make it work well... It might be better to create beats on which to build actual songs... Just my personal opinion...
I always value your opinion and I like the idea of building a set of beats, let’s discuss that a bit more here.
People across Hive could make use of them in their own songs, each beat having an associated Hive post so that they can be discovered.
