The Responsibility of Fame: Celebrity Reactions and Fan Culture

As we all know, the celebrity life isn’t an easy one. As individuals, we all have our favourite celebrities and some of us would even die for them. An example is Cristiani Ronaldo and Messi fans. They literally are on each others necks all the time because each party is trying to prove that his favourite is the GOAT.

But in doing this, we sometimes tend to get aggressive. I recently heard of a case where a man was stabbed to death in Ghana when he went to see a match at the stadium. It was sad to lose a life over a football banter but that’s how aggressive some of us can be. One thing we all should know is that not everyone will like your favourite celebrity and that’s okay. We need to act like sane humans beings and respect each others views and preferences.

As for celebrities, most of them today can’t even have their privacy again because their fans are always trying to intrude in their personal lives. And one thing about this whole thing is that with social media becoming what it is now, it’s very easy for fans to cancel you and you’d most likely loose your career over something little. So, it’s more like fans control the narrative now.

But when we speak of fans, we have different breeds. We have those that support you from their rooms right on their beds, we have those that would fight others for you and those that are rich enough to pay and come see you at your shows. Here in Ghana, we mostly have such shows in December. That’s when most of these celebrities host their shows and fans come to have fun with them. However, most of these shows don’t always go as expected. It’s either a fan runs up on stage to do God knows what or someone throw something at the celebrity.

One thing we need to understand is that celebrities are also human with emotions, loved ones and even enemies. In situations like this, the celebrity also not knowing what this person is trying to do tries to protect himself because he could be stabbed to death on stage by a someone who looks like he’s coming upstage to give him a hug. This is why there’s very tight security around the stage at such events. Once you haven’t been called to be on stage with the said celebrity, you have no business running up there.

You paid to be a fan and not a performer so why don’t we just follow the rules. Instead we always see how some celebrities end up hitting or snubbing off such fans. We might see it to be rude but honestly, to these people, security is very important. Any little mistake and something bad could happen to you. In my point of view ,I think it’s totally unprofessional for a fan to act aggressively when they see their favourite celebrity. Once you are calm and you approach them, they wouldn’t also be aggressive towards you because then, they wouldn’t feel threatened.

So, henceforth, let’s make sure to act respectfully and professionally towards our favourite celebrities so that they can also return the favour and it’s a win win for us all. I hope you enjoyed reading this, thank you for your time.
