The Christmas I Remember vs The Christmas I Live Now.

Christmas is a season of love, giving and happiness. You’d all agree with me that when it’s that time of the year, even the air feels different and the energy is different all together. It’s a time where everyone is happy, joyful and thankful for life.

Everyone loves Christmas because that’s the time of the year when we all get to spend time with our families, rest after a long year and also have some fun alongside. It’s also one of the most busy periods of the year for adults. When I was younger, I really didn’t have much to do during Christmas period aside watching home alone, singing to Christmas songs and attending the numerous parties being organised by my neighbors.

I’m not a Christian but I do also get involved with the Christmas festivities because in my part of the world, everyone is involved when it comes to festivities no matter your standing because we believe that we are all one people at the end of the day. I vividly remember Christmas season as a child because those were part of the happiest times I’ve had in my life. It was full of enjoyment, gifts and what have you.

Now that I’m much older, I have to take up some responsibilities as every adult is supposed to. Even though we don’t celebrate the festival in our home, we also have some end of year traditions in our family where we all come together after a long year to catch up, talk and also plan for the year ahead. During such times, I have to be busy in the kitchen, babysit kids I didn’t give birth to while also caring for adults also. It’s more like I don’t get much rest aside having fun and spending time with family.

Most recently, I haven’t had much time to visit home and so any little time I got to spend with my family and friends mean a lot to me. But if I’m to be honest, I’d say Christmas as a child was much more fun than as an adult because I didn’t have much responsibility. This isn’t to say that Christmas isn’t fun for me as an adult, it is because I get to do a lot of fun stuff and go on a lot of adventures which I wasn’t able to go on as a child.
