Signs, Symbols, and Superstitions: What Do You Believe?

The world we live in is a very weird place and in as much as there’s a lot we know about the world, there’s also a lot we don’t know. There are so many things that have occurred which people still haven’t been able to place meaning to and there’s still things to happen in the future which we wouldn’t understand.

This should tell us that there are higher beings out here and even we as humans, there’s different types of us. Some of us can see beyond the naked eye while some can’t. But who can we question? No one I guess. I grew up learning about omens in my community. As a kid, hearing about those stuff scared the hell out of me but as a grew up, I guess I also started to read meanings to it and believing them. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt about the human mind and how the world works, it’s that sometimes what you believe in holds you captive. The human mind works in a very funny way. Once you believe in something or have fear in it, that’s just it for you because you have already conditioned your mind that this thing is bad or is a threat and that’s what you’re doing to view it as until you let go of those thoughts.

It is believed that omens predict if a bad or good event is going to happen and it’s just a way of hinting you. I’ve heard so many stuff around cats growing up and that somehow adds to the reason why I’m not really a fun of cats as I’ve always viewed them as bad creatures. There was this thing going around that cats were good and bad animals at the same time depending on how the owners treat them. I once heard of a real story of a woman with a cat. This woman was dying and her cat knew so what happened was that the cat unfortunately died and the woman lived and it is believed that the cat died for the woman so she could live. Today, I think about it and don’t know what to think about.😂

If there’s one omen that I strongly believe in today and have experienced it firsthand, it’s the one that talks about dogs being animals that represent witches. In my community and other places I’ve stayed, we believe that witches turn into dogs and seeing them at night in groups means that they are witches who have gathered and one must try to avoid finding himself around such animals in the late hours of the night.

One lady in my community who sells food late into the night happened to have an encounter with about 50 dogs around midnight one day and that was the last time she worked late because what she saw wasn’t something she could even speak about for fear of her life. Back in the university also, anytime I woke up at dawn or midnight , I would see so many dogs gather around one supermarket just opposite my hostel and they would be there for sometime and just disperse. This made me have thoughts about that supermarket and I made sure to avoid going there.

I know this might all be in my head but I guess it is what it is.

Hmmm dogs animals that represents witches? . The one I heard here is that if you dream and see a dog means your enemy is a close person. . 🏃

Never heard of this before. I guess it’s a belief elsewhere.

Certainly, many of these beliefs are learned through one's environment and family and become part of life itself. Much success.

Hello 👋 lady, I love your write up. I know of cats too, how good they are if you treat them well. But for dogs I'm just finding out today. Thanks for sharing.

The things existing in our brain often form the world around us. I am wondering what you experienced firsthand about those dogs? I mean did you see them turning into witches?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I didn’t. But from the stories I heard, my brain just started seeing them that way.

We carry many deeply rooted customs from birth. We grow up hearing stories that are often a reflection of our fears. Fears play tricks on us. Greetings.
