School Days Flashback: The Subject That Changed Everything

We always have that one friend who’s always correcting your english or that of others. Okay, so I’m that friend. I remember telling my friends that bad grammar is a turn off for me and everyone laughed but honestly it is. Once, I was speaking to this guy and I literally had to explain the meaning of every word I say to him.

And funny enough, it wasn’t like I was using any big grammar. It was just the basics, to me. But he was still struggling. I wasn’t comfortable because I’d have to tone down to using primary school grammar when speaking to him and I wasn’t ready to do that for him. So eventually, I stopped talking to him because I didn’t want him to even start feeling I was bullying him or trying to show off when I was just being myself.

Growing up, I was that kid that was always reading books. I didn’t have time to play with my siblings or even friends cos I was so caught up with reading. My dad loved that I was a book worm and always got me more books but my mom was pushing for me to step out more. And as it should be, the more you read, the more you build your vocabulary. With this, english wasn’t and has never been a problem for me.

For as long as I can remember, I was always topping my class in various subjects but when it came to English language, I didn’t even have to put in effort to pass. You should see me during English class, answering questions, challenging the teachers, correcting their grammar and many more. I didn’t even give chance. Thinking about it now, it’s even funny to me with how much I loved English language lessons.

English language has always been my favorite subject and up till today, I still love to read and build my vocabulary. Sometimes I meet people who struggle to even put their thoughts into words because English is a problem. And sometimes I wonder how they must feel because not being able to express yourself is very tough. Till today, I sometimes find myself correcting people when they make a mistake subconsciously but I’ve come to understand that everyone is not on the same level and I have to let people be. Now, I’m not even bothered if someone speaks bad grammar unless you’re my friend.😂

English helps a lot, yes, it was a great subject, but, I will say that I get in there not early, it was tough for me to construct those letters correctly, but with time i became better, and till today, I am still learning to improve.

We never stop, once learning stop, it will just be like the whole system crack, and nobody wants a thing like that, so why not keep learning! 😁😁
