Revive the Past, Impact the Future: What Would You Bring Back?
Life is simple, but also has its own complications. From the time I was born till today, I would say I have seen a lot in this life. A lot has changed and is still changing both in a good way and a bad way. But what matters most when it comes to every individual and life in general is how you adapt to this change.
Change isn’t a one day thing. It’s a life long process. Sometimes we change without even knowing because situations can either bring the best or the worst out of you depending on how you view it. I grew up with my grandparents as a child so I know how life was for them those days. It wasn’t all rosy but everyone made sure to contribute to building a beautiful home and community for everyone around.
If I could bring back something from the past, there’s actually a lot I would wish to bring back, especially my friends and family I have lost. But one thing I know is that, everyone has to leave one day, even if they’re not ready. All I can do now is hold on to their memories and live happily for them. So, looking in the perspective of something that would impact today’s generation and the future generations, what I wish I could bring back would be the olden way of living. I understand that the world is advancing and with technology and what have you, there’s a lot that has changed and will still change. But, in the midst of all these developments, we seem to have lost ourselves in the process.
Those days, a child was for everyone and it took a whole community to raise one kid. Everyone was involved and this left no space for the kid to misbehave or go the wrong way unless the kid wants to. I grew up thinking everyone in my community was my family member. I could spend the whole day with my neighbors and end up sleeping there and having to be taken back home by my uncle. If my family didn’t trust my neighbors enough, I don’t think they would have made me spend even a minute there. Today, I don’t even know my neighbors and I’m sure most of you also don’t. Honestly it isn’t the best.
We are always on our phones, or doing other stuff which is related to life. But knowing our neighbors shouldn’t be anything difficult for any of us. Let’s do better.
Next, as part of bringing back the old way of living, I’d like to bring back the days when we didn’t feel pressured or feel like we have to impress others. Today, so many people are in debt because they chose to borrow huge sums of money for their weddings or to buy the latest iPhones. Why because they want to been seen as the high class and woke people. What’s the essence of having a big phone or a posh wedding when you will be hungry in the next week. Living within your means has never been a crime and I don’t think it will ever be. We need to do away with the thought of trying to fit in. Life is simple, live within your means because this isn’t a race.
These changes I think would impact our generation so much because we are losing ourselves slowing and we can’t even see it. Maybe, a little bit of a change and redirection would do us some good.

I totally agree: living with simplicity, connection, and purpose makes all the difference. Thank you for sharing
Sense of community we've in the past is now long lost with the introduction of technology and smartphone that create distractions.
It is often good to remember the past to better live the present and the future.
