Renting Made Simple: Finding the Right Home
I didn’t know what renting a home felt like. Most of my friends were staying in rented places with their families while I on the other hand was banging door in my fathers house. As I grew up, I moved away from home and the harsh reality hit me. Renting a place outside isn’t for the weak. If not for anything, I wish I was still staying in my fathers house because being an adult isn’t easy at all.
The first time I rented a place was in my first year in university. I didn’t know what to look out for so we just booked a school hostel room. I had to share the room with 3 other ladies and the bathroom with a billion others. It was hell. I didn’t like and I couldn’t wait for the school year to end so I could get a new place.
Thanks to my parents, I got a new place but had to share with a roommate. The room was good and everything until our roofing fell off and we had to be sleeping with bath. I’m sure you’re wondering where the owner of the house was. Our landlady told us to find money and fix the roof. Me that doesn’t have a plot of land should but roofing for someone’s house. I just packed my bags and left to perch with a friend. The next year, I moved to my own place. This is to say that I’ve have now tasted what it feels like to rent a space and I must say, it’s not rosy.
Now, I wouldn’t say I’m a pro in looking for the right space but I do know what I’m looking out for now. The first thing I check for when I’m renting a space is the ventilation and how big the space is. I love to have a spacious place because I don’t like congestion. I’d prefer to have too much space than little to no space in my room. Ventilation is also very important to me because I need clean air.
Next thing I would look out for is internet connectivity. This is one thing I always forget to look out for when I’m renting a space and I somehow end up staying in a room with no network and that affects a lot of my work. As someone who does a lot of work online, I need my house to have proper internet connectivity.
Next thing I will look out for is if there are any issues in the house be it with the electricity, water supply, security and what have you. Because trust me, these are the little things that will frustrate you if you don’t know about them. I say this because I’ve learnt my lessons the hard way and I wound not want to make that mistake again. If I had my way, I really wouldn’t rent ever again in my life but I guess not all our wishes come true and the least I can do for myself now is to look out for the best out of the best. Our living space affects our lives in many ways.

it is a good move asking someone to accompany you or guide you when you are looking for a new place to live

That’s true. It helps a lot.
I was expecting you to mention a house being haunted 😅.
The house that the roof fell, when you packed left to perch with your friend, did the landlady refund money? No, I just know😅
She didn’t , she was even calling to ask me for money to pay water bill. I just blocked her.
