My Random Country Spotlight

If there’s one country I can talk about all day, it has to be my country Ghana. I can go on and on about so many interesting things about my country including our beautiful landscape, the people here, our history and many other things you’d love to know about. And I can also shatter your heart by talking about our current economic situation which is a mess, the high rate of corruption and our educational system which has become something else over the years.

But hey, I wouldn’t want to bore you with my country today so let’s look elsewhere. Today let’s talk about another country which has my heart. My Nigerian brothers and sisters like @fashtioluwa and @jhymi will be thinking I’m going to talk about their country so let me just do it. Yo yo yo, I’m kidding!😅
Maybe I’ll do that another day, just not today.

Now ,let’s talk about the Netherlands. It’s about 6-8 hours from Ghana by flight so I can run there for a holiday any time I feel bored. When you hear the Netherlands, you’d obviously think about bicycles as everyone knows. Netherlands is know as the land of bicycles because those are the most common means of transportation for everyone. Everyone there probably owns a bicycle, both young and old and to me, I do think it’s good thing because bicycles can help you exercise your body and stay fit in a way.

I have been privileged to spend some time in the Netherlands and there were lot of things things I saw and experienced which made me love the place. The dutch are very hospitable people I must say. I remember how a worker from the hotel I stayed in gave me a charger because mine couldn’t be used there until I was able to find one for my phone. She was a life saver that day. Moving away from the people and bicycles. Let’s talk about the aesthetics of the country.

The whole country gives off ancient vibes. The buildings are huge and they look like those from the olden days. Even though some parts of the county has modern buildings, other parts also have ancient ones and I believe their main purpose is to maintain the history of the country. Let me not forget about the canals and water management system in the country. You’re likely to come across many water management systems like canals, dams and dikes in places like Utrecht, Amsterdam and other cities. I believe this also plays a huge role in maintaining a chilly weather on most days.

Now let’s talk flowers. The flowers in the Netherlands are beautiful. I don’t know how the people there do it but you’re mostly likely to see beautiful flowers blooming here and there as you step out. In my country Ghana, you hardly see that cos most of us don’t even have the time and energy to grow flowers. Also, I guess some of us probably just don’t see the beauty and fulfillness in nurturing something this beautiful.

But aside all these ,one thing I don’t like about the Netherlands is their food. I don’t think I’ve seen a place where I can get banku or fufu to eat there. I remember visiting a local restaurant and I ended up eating rice with honeyed spaghetti. People like me grew up eating heavy and spicy foods and I found it hard coping with the food there. Aside the food, I’d love to visit again and probably relocate there if possible. I’ll just have to carry my banku along next time. 😅

all images belong to me.

Wow, I just found out that the Dutch inherited a healthy culture by cycling every day, they have burned a lot of fat and calories, there is no need for a gym anymore, I like the Netherlands

I agree with you about the Netherlands' charm. Too bad about the food, though, maybe you can find some Ghanaian restaurants in the Netherlands next time.

Thanks for sharing.
