One Month, One Skill : My Personal Learning Challenge

Life is a continuous journey of learning, unlearning and relearning. Everyday, we learn something new in our consciousness and unconsciously. Over the years, we have been able to grow and get to where we currently are because we never stopped learning.

I for one have been learning since I was a kid. There were days I didn’t want to learn but really wasn’t given a choice. Growing up, there was a time I would intentionally go to school late just to skip some classes. I wasn’t one to miss school, but be sure to have me coming very late on some days. Unlike some of my mates, I didn’t even go for extra Saturday classes like most people do here in Ghana.

Speaking of skills, I started learning new skills at a young age. Aside school, I was always curious about learning new stuff. I learnt to crochet even before I got to junior high school, but most people don’t know that because I do not have time to practice it and I probably just don’t fancy it anymore. Along the line, I learnt how to sew because I knew it was a skill I would need any day, anytime. Even if I wasn’t going to earn from it, I could at least save all that money I would pay to a tailor or seamstress to get a full fit.

Recently, I’ve been looking to learn a new skill and I actually spoke to a couple of people about it. Looking at where our world I going, I’ve come to realize that technology is moving faster than we ever imagine. So, I knew I wanted to learn an IT skill. But as we all know, the field of IT is very broad and I’ve been struggling to settle on what aspect of IT to equip myself in. After a lot of discussion, consultations and research, I decided to go with data analytics or AI.

Actually, I’m ready to pay to learn this and what is left now is just to find a place to teach me these skills. So, if I’m to learn a skill for free within a month with all resources being provided, I would most definitely opt to learn data analysis or AI. It may would funny to others but these two actually are in very high demand and anyone with these skills is basically sitting on a goldmine. I like gold and I most definitely love goldmines and an opportunity like this would be a dream come true for me because it’s literally going to be free. All I need it to make time and bring my brain to work.

I know it’s actually not an easy course but as they say, nothing good comes easy. A month would also probably be a very short time to equip myself with some skills in any of these fields, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Anything is possible , you just need to put your mind to it and you will be halfway there. I am ready, and I hope to get such an opportunity soon before I’d have to pay for it. What better motivation can I ask for.😅

I’ll just have to make time to learn it. After all, it’s for my own good.

I think nowadays information is so easy to access that you don’t need to pay for it unless the certificate itself is extremely likely to help you more than the skill itself is.

I found I learn so much faster when I do it on my own too. I do horrible in a class and can learn 5x faster on my own

Learning alone is actually good for some people but others do better when they study in groups.

At the end of the day, everyone needs to do what works best for them.
