There are so many things I hold dear to my heart and my friends are one. On a normal day, you would hardly see me walking what anyone but as soon as you see me with someone, you just know they’re my friends because of how we relate.

As I grow older, I gradually come to understand friendship and its importance. I’m not one to have many friends but I sure do have my way around people. I can talk to anyone I meet on various topics but for us to become friends, it would take more than us having a vibe. I meet so many people every blessed day yet I somehow manage to always keep a very small circle to avoid drama. I value my peace of mind so much and I also know the importance of giving people space and respecting their boundaries.

There are people out there who don’t know their boundaries and there’s no way in hell I am going to be friends with these kinds of people. As they say, do unto others what you want others to do unto you. That is my number one rule in friendship. A friend is not one who would mock you or make you feel stupid in the presence of others. A friend is not one who would talk behind your back. A friend is not one who wouldn’t show up for you when you need them.

Friendship means a great deal to me and that’s why I don’t just call anyone my friend. The people I call friends know me in and out. I didn’t even need to speak about something bothering me, just by looking at me, they would know what is wrong and vice versa. My friends know what I dislike and like and I also know same about them. We all know what to do and what not to do so as to not cross our boundaries.

Making new friends is quite a difficult thing for me these days. It’s more like having to start a talking stage all over again. I honestly don’t really have the time and energy for that at this point. But then, sometimes I wish I had at least a good number of friends who could impact my life positively. I guess it is what it is. Maybe ,it can also be the fact that I have grown very comfortable around the few friends I have. But one thing I understand is that they all have their lives to live and so do I?

Regardless, I really don’t need people to have fun. In as much as I have friends, it’s not always I can be with them. Some people find it very difficult to do stuff without their friends but it’s not the same for me. I am okay going I adventures alone if my friends can’t make it. You should not make your life revolve around someone else. Learn to live for yourself, but never forget the bond you have with others.
