There’s a Ghanaian proverb that says,’wotanfo b3 nya woa na 3y3 yare3’ which means for your enemies to be finally happy, it will be when you’re on your sick bed. This should be a reminder of how important it is that we pay more attention to our health.

I always tell my friends to put themselves first when I realize their work doesn’t give them time to take care of themselves. When you fall sick or even worse, die, the job you’re trying so hard to maintain would be given to someone else within the next few days and it would be like you never existed. So , why not take care of yourself before stressing over other stuff.

I don’t remember the last time I was required to visit the hospital to due an illness. Everyone is bound to experience minor illness such as a headache and constipation which can be solved by a visit to the pharmacy. But believe me when I tell you that not all these minor illness can be solved by just a visit to the pharmacy.

Using myself as an example, I’ve been battling persistent coughs and colds and even headaches for sometime now. The coughs and cold have been with me since I can remember and I would always get drugs from the pharmacy but they never seem to fully work because after a few days, the situation goes back to the way it was before.

It took me a lot of time before I was fully able to understand and come to a realization that I had to make a few changes to my daily routine. During this time of the year especially ,when we experience harmattan couple with heat, we need to pay very close attention to our health. One thing I came to realize was affecting my health a lot was taking in cold water. I understand that drinking cold water and warm water both have their effects on the body but when I weighed both of them, I knew cold water was bad for me so I put a stop to it.

It wasn’t easy to do away with drinking cold water but with time I got used to it. Even now that we are experiencing hot weather, I still am not able to take cold water that much because is I’m typing now, I’m having a runny nose.😄



Working a 9-5 job isn’t an easy task and same applies to being a student or a stay at home mom or dad. We all have busy days and at the end of the day we get so exhausted we can’t do anything but to sleep. There are situations where we get so busy that we have little to no time to rest. I experienced that a lot as a student and it didn’t favor me at all. I would always be grumpy and frustrated from lack of rest and I knew it but I didn’t have a choice.

Having enough rest is very important for the human body even though we don’t pay much attention to it. No matter how busy one is, you should always make sure to have enough rest ahead of the next day. That way, you’re able to function to your full capacity and also avoid stress and any other complications.

At least I learned the hard way, never again in my life!

Isn’t it weird that I drunk warm water in the north but now that I am in the south I drink cold water… I better stop

It is very good for one to study his or her body system and arrive at what is good for the and what is bad for the body. I followed the same process like you and discovered that cold water isn't good for my system.
Another important thing that works for me is having enough rest. It energizes the body and keeps one mentally fit.

The best therapy for exhaustion and headaches is sleep. If anything disturbs you from having adequate sleep, that's not a good sign... And an indication to sought healthcare

Habits are really what shape our health, so they are a mirror of our health and physical and mental state, I totally agree with you.

One thing I came to realize was affecting my health a lot was taking in cold water. I understand that drinking cold water and warm water both have their effects on the body but when I weighed both of them, I knew cold water was bad for me so I put a stop to it.

I would never have imagined that drinking cold water could be so bad for the body. I usually drink both, natural water and cold water that is kept in the fridge, but to date I have never had any problems with it. Thanks for sharing this with us!

This was my situation years ago but my eyes cleared later when a colleague died and the next day, someone replaced her.

I also avoid cold water because it gives me throat problem and i realized i fall sick when i drink too much of it consecutively.

When you kill yourself over work, you will die and work continues...rest is over important for a healthy living

Then, you was taking cold water? It's difficult to stop especially in heat period but it's better to stop it than getting sick and spending more in the hospital

Oh the cold water😩. This whole week I tried to stay away from it but after a while, I will be like one sip of cold water won’t be bad. But it gives me instant pain. And I know it will but I want to drink it the least chance I get.
