Independence: The Dream, The Reality, The Lessons

I’m always left in shock when I hear people say they don’t have peace in their parents house and when they were younger they just wanted to leave home. I guess there’s always an exception because I don’t think I’ve ever had the thought of wanting to leave home so badly for any reason whatsoever. I had everything I needed, I didn’t need to bring money home and I had my peace of mind. What more could I ask for

I’m actually worried I might one day end up going to my fathers house from the market instead of my husband’s house because home is where my heart is. To me, there’s always love at home and no matter what I do, my family and my fathers house is home to me. I didn’t think I’d have to leave home one day but life happened and today when I look back , I’ve been away from home for over 6 years while visiting when I can.

Honestly, it hasn’t been easy having to move away from all my friends and loved ones to start a life of my own somewhere I else. It’s fun getting to explore new places and all but I always wish to have that feeling of returning home to a full house, with the noise from the Tv , kids running around, laughter and the sweet aroma of pepper soup siping through the house. For years, I’ve had to come home to an empty space with no one but myself. At some point, it gets lonely and this is one reason why I am always itching for the holiday season. During that period, I get to go back home to spend quality time with my family, away from the loneliness and quiet.

To me, there’s always love and comfort at home and I love being at home more than away from home. Being an adult is hard and life on the streets is even harder. But being alone during this time makes things even worse. At the end of the day, there’s a reason why we all are away from home and hopefully, one day we will all reunite with our families with numerous milestones to celebrate and be proud of.
