Equality Isn’t Complicated: Let’s Break It Down

Truth is, women were being oppressed then. If history has it right, women were not allowed to go to school or even have a career of their own. They were just a shadow, hiding behind their husbands who were supposedly those in charge. Don’t get me wrong, even God who created man and woman made it known to us that men would always be above women. Men are there to protect us as women and their families while also leading the family.
But then, the issue came in when women were not allowed to explore and discover their true potential. Thanks to this fight, today, the girl child is able to pursue any career or her choice whole growing to become the best version of herself. This doesn’t mean women can’t take care of the home and play their roles as mothers, they can. I’ve met many amazing women in great standing who are wives and mothers to beautiful kids.
To me, gender equality basically encompasses women getting the same opportunities given to me. The chance to be in school, the chance to pursue whatever they want, the chance to explore and even the chance to truly be who they are. But then again, gender equality goes with equity because there’s no way a man and woman can be the same. There should be equity backing equality and this is something most people don’t understand.

I’ve seen and heard most women talk about equality but honestly, their perspective is very wrong. It feels as though they aren’t fighting for women’s rights but rather fighting men. It wouldn’t really make any sense if you keep on fighting men instead of fighting for the right cause which is equality backed by equity. What we should fight is the system and most of all, our mindsets and perspectives. Most people- both men and women still have the notion that women belong in the kitchen. If in today’s world we have people with this kind of mentality, we should know we have to tackle the issue for the grassroots.
To fight this fight, you need to know the problem and what you stand for. Don’t just go around talking and attacking others.
