Discipline Isn’t Trendy, But It’s Everything

I’d like to believe that discipline is something we don’t talk about much in our lives. Today, I happened to have a discussion with some friends of mine about children and this discussion led us to talk about so many aspects of our day to day lives. I’m that kind of person who doesn’t just have discussions and let them go. When everything is said and done, I start to think about everything that was talked about.

I start to try to assimilate the whole discussion once again, trying to pinpoint the good things that were said and the stuff that should have never been said. Today , I just happen to get back home and all of a sudden my mind is back to this discussion I had earlier in the day. This whole discussion was centered around children and their upbringing. One of my friends stated that she had met so many kids in her life but she happened to meet this nurse with kids and these kids still amaze her.

When we talk about discipline, this nurse deserves the mom of the year award for how well she raised her kids. From how my friend explained the whole situation, she said these kids weren’t your regular kind of kids. The eldest was 7 years of age followed by two others with 2 years gap between each of them. These kids weren’t kids who were all over the place, they knew what to do and what not to do and they didn’t even stress their mom out because they were raised that way.

She stated that she asked their mom how she managed to get kids so disciplined and their mom said she groomed them that way right from the eldest. This way, once the second one was born, he already came to meet his elder sister being disciplined and followed suit. Honestly, I’m someone who doesn’t wish for kids who disturb and I’ve always wanted to train my kids this way.

But thinking about it, discipline starts right from the top of the chain. And now that I think about it, I’d like to believe their mom to be a disciplined person because that’s the only way she would be able to instill this habits in her kids since kids learn from what they see. Everyone talks about how they want to be this and do this and that and how they are working hard on the daily basis to make it happen, but no one seems to talk about discipline. Maybe we don’t think it matters much but it’s the one thing that keeps everything in line and on track most of the time. I wouldn’t say I’m not disciplined in my life but from what I have learnt to today, I’m making a mental note to be more discipline than I am today because in as much as discipline isn’t everything, it is everything.
