Content for Cash: Are We Going Too Far?

The entertainment industry has grown to become one of the fastest growing industries in the world over the past few years. Gone were the day when we had very limited sources of entertainment. It’s either you had to wait for the community festival or stick to watching whatever that one television channel on your Tv is showing.

Today, the story is different. The entertainment industry has grown far and wide and today, most of us don’t even have time to watch Tv because everything is right on our phones, laptops and iPads. One can’t be serious all the time, obviously and that is why some people have taken it upon themselves to create content to entertain others. To me, content creation really goes beyond trying to entertain people. I’d like to believe that was the initial plan. But as time went by, innovative ideas came along and different people hopped onto the concept and started creating their own stuff.

Everyone is literally a content creator today and it really isn’t that bad. I had a friend tell me some time ago that whatever feeds you shouldn’t be something you should be shy of. Whether we like it or not , content creation is a huge part of the future. We can’t be working all the time, we need to be entertained and if you’d agree with me, most people from the western world seek entertainment because they have found a perfect work life balance unlike people from my part of the world.

I’m not against the monetisation of content because everyone must eat. I think it’s actually a very great thing that content is being monetised these days because then, no one really appreciated what content creators put out there. People didn’t really see its value but now, I’d like to believe most people do see the value. Content creation can be both good and bad and some people would go to every extent just to make sure they earn some cash or go viral. Someone can even do something very silly which could land them in the hospital or even cost them their lives. But be sure that that one video would go viral and who knows , their lives wouldn’t be the same anymore.

Have many of us grown more lazy to pursue actual work? What do we even classify as actual work in the first place. People work not only out of passion but also to earn a living. As much as we had values tradition jobs so much, content creation is also a job for others and you can trust that u ya a certain very tideous thing. Behind all those beautiful videos with sharp graphics we see are days and numerous hours of work being put in there. I’d say that the youth is now even more actively working especially in the aspect of content creation. With the low levels of employment in my part of the world today, some people see content creation as their way out of poverty.

Content creation is a part of the future, it being monetised is very valid and let’s continue to support the millions of come creators out there for everyone of us in a content creator in our own little way.
