Building and Maintaining Healthy Online Connections

Over the years, social media has advanced so much such that there’s a lot going on there. There’s been the introduction of various social media platform for different purposes over the fast few years. And each day, we still have new platforms being introduced.

As they say, making meaningful connections is very crucial to building a good brand in todays world and even as we know, it’s in human nature for us to have people in our lives since we can’t do this life thing alone. However, the world has gradually transitioned from living and interacting in person to living almost fully online. People have found their destiny helpers, friends, colleagues and even partners in the social media space for as long as I can remember and it’s still happening today.

I remember one of my friends telling me to make noise about what I do on social media because she has been able to build her brand so much just from showing the great work she does for the world. Being someone who’s not really active in the social media space, I found it to be a bit tiring. But guess what, no one told me to hop on the idea a few months later and today the rest us history. I made a mental note to be more intentional about my growth and showing what I do in the social media space while growing my network and I can say that, so far I’ve been able to make great connections with people who have impacted my life so much.

This is not to say that I don’t meet people in person on the daily basis. I do, a lot actually. But as they say, not everyone you meet is supposed to be your friend. You should have who are friends, those who are acquaintances and those who are just passing by, just as it’s should be.

Speaking of meeting people, I can say I’ve met so many people on social media and most of them have impacted my life so much. Some I have been able to collaborate with on some projects, others have helped me in so many ways and then there are those that have grown to be my friends and family over the years. Taking a look at people like @jhymi and @fashtioluwa , I have actually never met these sweet individuals in person before but trust me, they’ve proven themselves to be more than people I just met on hive.

Even though we haven’t met each other before, we literally keep in touch with each other, talk about ways to develop ourselves and many more things I can’t even discuss. It’s more like we’ve been able to find a fine balance in our relationship. These days, @fashtioluwa has grown horns but my sister @jhymi is always checking up on me even though she has a lot going on. Due to how she’s very intentional about our relationship despite her busy schedule, I also have to treat her as a priority just like anyone will do. Speaking on help, she has helped me in so many ways even though she’s miles away from me in a different country.

We’ve cried together, laughed together, celebrated our wins together and many more. It’s safe to say we’ve grown to be more like sisters now. I get that social media can be a dangerous place most at times but there’s always good people out there. You just need to know who to draw in and who to keep at an arm’s length. Social media is here to stay and we all need to make sure to use it wisely.
