Parent And Parenting

Hello and welcome once again to my blog. In this post, I will be adding my own voice to an ongoing discussion going on in the Ladies Of Hive Community to celebrate and honour Moms in the month of May.

This Week's Contest is the 3rd of a three weeks series in the collaboration between @dreemport and @ladiesofhive communities. I have chosen to answer the first question posed by @amberkashif for Contest #186. Take a look below👇:

1️⃣ Parenting transcends mere stages in life; it represents a profound designation entailing the monumental responsibility of instilling high moral values and shaping the succeeding generation for a prosperous future. In this regard, what do you consider to be the three most pivotal qualities or traits that parents must possess in order to effectively fulfill this vital task

Beginning With Definitions

It is very important to know exactly what we mean my the words parents and Parenting before continuing the discussion.

A Parent can be defined as the father of a child or the mother of a child. That is the simplest way I can define a parent, but this my be by birth or by other means.

Parenting has a lot of definitions, but I love the way merriam-webster dictionary puts it. I took a screenshot from their website:

Qualities Or Traits To Succeed As A Parent

After taking a look at the definition of parenting, as well as witnessing the happenings around us, it is clear that parenting is not a easy task, and this may or may not lead us to the conclusion that parenting is not for everyone.

From my own experience as a mother, and from situations I have observed around me, I have come to the conclusion that the following traits or qualities must be in place in the life of any one who wants to embark on a parenting journey, whether directly by birthing a child or through other options.

Psychological Maturity

There are people who are old enough to have children but they are not mentally and psychologically prepared for the demands and pressure that comes with parenting. Nobody prays to have such challenges but life is known to throw certain experiences at people. Are you ready to stand your ground when the unexpected happens or are you someone who is easily shaken by circumstances? Let your mind be prepared, challenges are real, and come packaged in different ways.

Emotional Stability

It is important for someone to be emotionally prepared for a parenting experience. Aim for unconditional love from you to the child you are parenting. If you can't be joyful when you don't have a child, having 20 may not bring joy. Deal with anger and all the negative emotions that go hand in hand with it. Let love rule your heart before the child/children come.

Financial Security

Money may not be everything, but you need it to be able to give your child or children a comfortable life. It is important that someone has a means o livelihood so that he/she will be able to provide for his or her family. How do you plan to clothe and feed your children without money, or even ensure they get good education? I cannot overemphasise how important money is to successful parenting.

In Conclusion...

I would not want you to think that these three qualities I have written about are the only ones needed for successful parenting, but to me they are very pivotal.

Also, I want to point out that what I have suggested is not for women alone or for men alone. The work of parenting should not be left for one, it should be done with great commitment by the two parents for greater success.

Thank you for reading to this point. I hope you enjoyed my post. Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below, and I will get back to you.

It is such a coincidence that I also stated maturity as one of the qualities I believe a parent must possess. It has even become more worse in this present time when we have people who are still meant to be receiving guidance under their parent but already giving birth to their own children. Such people are never prepared for what it takes to withstand the pressure that comes with parenting.

I know, right! A lot of people who need parenting themselves are becoming parents every day and it is so saddening to see.

Maturity~ ah yes, it's very important. I can't imagine someone who's immature to be doing the parenting. Usually the children look up to their parents and the way they act, so can't imagine if an immature parent teaching their children some immaturity things. waaa it's a no.

You are right about maturity. There are certain people who grow only in number every year but not become mature mentality. When they have been given the responsibility of parenting they mess with it.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, !LADY

Psychological maturity is such an important trait a parent should develop as it would enhance them in the care and raising of their young ones, as this parenting job isn't a walk in the park.

All the qualities highlighted are just it.
The maturity quality is the ideal, marriage and child raising is not just about finding someone to marry and start producing children...
