Staying Healthy My Way: No Gym, No Problem

Last year, my health was in a terrible state. I was constantly sick, always exhausted, and barely had the energy to go about my daily activities.

Medications and injections became my best friends. I lost count of how many times I suddenly felt weak like my body had run out of fuel, and I would get lightheaded as if I was about to faint. Some days getting out of bed felt like an impossible task, and no matter how much I rested, I never felt truly refreshed. It was as if my body was crying for help, but I wasn't listening.

Everything changed after my last visit to the hospital. During my checkup, the doctor didn't hold back words, I was severely dehydrated, my blood sugar was low, and my immune system was weak. On top of all that, my poor eating habits were making everything worse. Sitting there, listening to all the issues my body was dealing with, I felt overwhelmed. How did I let things get this bad? I had ignored the warning for too long thinking I was fine, but I wasn't. That day, I made a promise to myself, that I would take my health seriously.

Drinking More Water

One of the first things I decided to fix was my water intake. It might sound like a small change, but for me, it was a deal. Naturally, I don't feel the urge to drink water. I could go an entire day and drink just a cup or two of water, sometimes even less. It never crossed my mind that this could be harmful. I assumed that I was fine as long as I wasn't feeling dehydrated.

To improve my water intake, I started using an app that helps me track how much water I drink each day. I also set reminders at intervals throughout the day to prompt me to drink water.

In the beginning, it felt like a chore, but over time, it became a habit. I went from barely drinking water to consuming over a liter daily. That may not sound like much to some, but for me, it was a major improvement.

Healthy Eating

Drinking more water was a big step, but there was another major problem I had to face....my eating habits, or rather, my complete lack of them.

The truth is, I wasn't eating well at all. if you walked into my room at any time, you would find snacks everywhere.......... biscuits, candies, soda, you name it. I was a certified junkie. If there were fines for eating too much junk, I'd probably be serving a life sentence. Proper meals? Those were optional in my world.

But all that junk food wasn't doing me any favor. My energy levels were all over the place, one moment, I would be feeling like I had a sugar rush and the next, I'd be completely drained. I knew I had to make a change.

So, I made a conscious effort to eat proper meals. Instead of relying on noodles all the time, I started eating more home-cooked meals. I also eat at the right times. Before, I had a terrible habit of eating super late at night which always left me feeling bloated and sluggish the next morning. Now, I try to eat dinner earlier, and it has made a huge difference.

Since I love fruits, I decided to use them to my advantage, Instead of mindlessly snacking on unhealthy junk food, I started replacing them with fresh fruits. Most times, I have fruits as my dinner, especially those with high water content like cucumber, watermelon, and oranges. These fruits keep me hydrated while also making me feel lighter and more refreshed. The natural sweetness of fruits, helps me curb my cravings for sugary snacks, so I feel the need to reach for processed sweets.

Rest and Relaxation

Good sleep is one of the most important ways to stay healthy, I sleep well, early, and better. Quality sleep, allows my mind to rest, and my energy levels to stay balanced throughout the day. I've noticed that when I sleep well, I wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.

Getting enough sleep also helps me to stay more focused and productive. My thoughts are clearer. I retain information better, and I don't have to struggle as much with mental fatigue.

After a long, day one of my favorite ways to regain energy is by taking a cold bath. There's something about the feeling of cool water touching my skin that just makes everything better. It's like my body instantly breathes a sigh of relief, and all the stress and tiredness of the day get washed away. If I could, I would probably stay under the water foreverrrr..... well until my fingers start to look like raisins.

Once I'm done, I don't rush to do anything else, Instead, I lie down and listen to music. Music has always been a safe space for me. it's like having a friend who always knows exactly what to say even without words. Some days, I go for slow, calming songs that make me feel at peace. other times, I play something upbeat, nodding my head along with the beat.

No Gym, No Problem

Whenever people bring up the topic of staying healthy, it's almost always about hitting the gym, lifting weights, or running on a treadmill. And while that's great for some, not everyone is cut out for that kind of life. I mean imagine me waking up at 5 AM, dressed in some workout gear running in slow motion like in some sports commercial....it not just happening, at least not anytime soon.

Some of us stay healthy in different ways, like eating better, resting well, and taking time to unwind. Good health isn't just about exercise and strict diets, it's also about making small daily choices that help you feel better. For me that means drinking enough water, eating proper meals, getting good sleep, and of course, having my little music relaxation moment after a long day. it's all about balance, and honestly, I think I'm getting the hang of it.

Lol it's the no gym no problem for me too, that part of staying healthy isn't for me. I like that you have a way of staying hydrated all day, it's a part I'm still struggling with.
What app is that you use for keeping track of your water intake?

Fruits and good home made meals are a way to go, at least, I've been trying my best in that aspect.
Good thing you're cutting down on your junks intake, I was going to ask them to arrest you for the life sentence 🙃

Lol, not you calling for my arrest over junk food 😅😅😅😅 I swear, I was a certified junkied, but I've been doing better.....no more life sentences for me 😅

And yeah, staying hydrated is a struggle sometimes, but that water tracker app really helps me.

I use this Fasting Tracker app, it reminds me to drink water throughout the day, so I don't forget because trust me, I would. I also use it for intermittent fasting, it's my favorite app at the moment.

It seems we are both on the same page and you just mentioned my 3 favourite fruits I go to every time, though I still add apples, too. Healthy living or gaining/reducing weight isn't about hitting the gym every time, not everyone is cut out for it including myself. All these simple habits are what I go with and I feel good. Most importantly, being conscious of one's eating time at night to avoid bloating or unrest while sleeping.

Exactly It’s really about maintaining simple, healthy habits that work for you. Not everyone is built for the gym life, and that’s fine. As long as you’re conscious of what you eat when you eat, and how it makes you feel, that’s what truly matters. Late-night eating can be a game changer, avoiding heavy meals at night helps with digestion and better sleep.

Not everyone is built for the gym, I'm sure I'm not.... me? Gym? No 😂

And drinking water is also something I rarely do, I also can go a day just drinking 1 or 2 cups of water and there's my mom always shouting at me to drink more water but I still do what I want 🥲

Our body needs rest naturally and everyone wants an healthy body, so yes... I'm going to try putting your tips to practice. God help me 😂😂😩
