The Three Towers

Pixabay
Atop a hill that time has erased from the map, three towers rise, darkened by soot and spectral silence. Named in ancient chronicles as Hunger, Poverty, and Misery. No one remembers who built them or why the mist perpetually envelops them. But the daring who venture nearby claim to hear murmurs offering treasure in exchange for something unseen. The iron bars, eroded but still intact, have never been breached by anyone, and yet, every full moon, a starving silhouette appears on the central tower, Misery, calmly gazing out as if waiting for its next prey.
