What Are You Grateful For as the Year is Wrapping Up?
The year is coming to an end and many people are disappointed about the year already. Probably because their desires were not met or because part of it was met. However, they have already felt disappointed and anxious about the new year. At the beginning of every year, many people usually have their aspirations for the year or what we popularly call the New Year resolution. I do not see anything wrong in a person having a blueprint for the year and also working towards achieving it.
The fact is that about fifty per cent of all New Year resolutions do not see the light of the day even when all efforts are put into ensuring that they are all achieved. I do not know why so don't bother to ask me. I have had so many New Year's resolutions and I can't remember the ones I have observed and performed to the end.
Most times life does not give us what we want but what is good for us at the moment. However, we might not always see it as a blessing. Every day is a blessing to all humans so long as you see the light of the day. The breath of life is the foremost blessing every person should be grateful for. Most times, the living do not know how fortunate they are. If the death could speak I think that would have been their statement too.
My emphasis on this post is to draw the attention of my readers to the very important aspect of life as the year is coming to an end. Counting your blessings instead of losses is cardinal to your mental health and Happiness.
You may not know the extent of your achievements until you count them. Instead of counting losses that are detrimental to your health and general well-being, focus on the little things that you think do not matter. Things like the breath of life, good health, mental health and stability, food on the table, shoes on your feet, cloth on your body, roof up above you, peace in your environment and many others too numerous to mention.
The truth is that humans do not pay attention to little of these things. They do not equate all of these as blessings. These are the things freely given to us to make life easy and seamless but not everyone is enjoying all of the privileges, others while attempting to use them pay heavily for them. These are enough reasons to be grateful.
Gratefulness should not be a result of being able to achieve big things in life like houses, cars, vacations and others. It is inwardly looking at the little things of life and being grateful for them.
The only way of surmounting the plague of a bad year is by counting your little blessings of life and hoping for better years to come. As the year is heading to an end, look beyond the twelve calendar months and work around the clock believing that in due course, you will achieve that goal you're aspiring for and not undermine the little ones that life has given.
