Values I sought most in friendship
Everyone around my life knows that I do not make friends with everyone. I am careful with the category of people I associate with. Everyone cannot be my friend hence, I have few friends as I can see what I want in a few people around me. Hardly do I force friendship because I know that the type of friends I have to a large extent determines what I become in life. Friends are powerful and as such they have a way of influencing the life of someone so I am always very careful. As it is often said, if you show me your friend, I will tell you who you are. It is very true because it is only birds of the same feather that flock together.
For me, some qualities are too important to be overlooked in friendship. While some virtues might appear insignificant but very important. All virtues are important on their own, but the premium attached to a virtue is what matters. Just as our tastes are different so it is with friendship. While I might emphasize having a faithful friend, another might insist on having a religious active friend. Just as our values differ, our tastes also differ.
One of the qualities that will qualify one to become my friend is openness. Being open is one quality that I cherish so much. I don't like dealing with secretive people. People who hide things from me yet want to know everything about me. Openness means transparency to me. You must be transparent in all that you do.
Another thing that will qualify a person in being my friend is truthfulness. Telling the truth all the time is a value I hold in high esteem because if you do not tell the truth you might lie about me to someone else, this is why telling the truth is important to me.
ability to keep secret is very paramount when choosing my friends. Some people are like basket mouths, nothing can be kept with them without exposing them to other people. This is a big turn-off to me. Some people can betray your trust and expose your information to someone else, especially to another person who seems to be their friend too.
A person who has given himself to alcoholism and womanizing can never be my friend. A man who is given to drinking is a person of low value as well as those who are not satisfied with one woman. People who indulge in these things are bound to have financial issues hence I can never associate intimately with them.
These are the things I hold in high esteem and I also ensure that anyone who happens to be my friend, possesses these qualities too.
