Social Media Rules and Regulations: A case of who pays the piper dictate Its tune.
Social media regulations: A case of who pays the piper detects its tune.
I have pondered on why some social media platforms are very bent on suspending accounts that go contrary to the rules of their platforms. I am so sure of Facebook because I use it more often than any other platform apart from #hive. I have seen so many people complain bitterly about how their accounts have been disabled and they are unable to create a new account. However, they are told their errors and asked to plead. Some even after appealing, nothing positive comes out of it in the end. The annoying part of it is the account with lots of followers.
Social media like other organizations have some rules and regulations that govern it and before you decide to use their platform it means that you have agreed to their terms and conditions and paraventure you go against such rules, you are penalized for such. It is important to note that each social media platform has different rules and it is important to understand them before using the platform.
I like to use Facebook as an example because I am closer to it. I have realized that on the Facebook platform, you are not allowed to sell branded products that are not original from the producer… I might be wrong though… if you do, your page will be disabled. It might not be so. On Hive, you will certainly be penalized for plagiarism, but it might not be so on Twitter (X). So one must be conversant with all of this before one starts engaging in any social media community.
Also, for content creators on Facebook using someone else’s song in the background, any amount of money generated by the content goes straight up to the owner of the song and not you the content creator. These regulations are there to guide how people relate in the platform. Without these regulations, we know how humans behave sometimes. This is a proverbial case of ‘he who pays the piper dictates its tune’.
I hope that you don't go against a particular social media platform's rules and regulations and expect not to be punished. Many people who are cashing out massively followed the laid-down rules. And if you think that you can publish anything you want, then you can come up with your platform and post your thoughts and any matter and how you want it. I think X has leverage for people to publish whatever they like without being sanctioned. I guess they are promoting free speech. But even with that, there are some stringent measures to control characters and strange behaviors.
However, while owners of social media platforms are implementing their rules and regulations, it is advisable to be just and fair and not victimize innocent users. Also, they should remember that without the people, such a community would be useless, hence they should respect the opinion of people and probably give out punitive measures that give second chances to erring users.
