Is The Government Outrightly The Problem? Who Should We Hold Responsible?
Everyone happens to blame the government for everything that happened to them. The government becomes the blame goat where everyone puts their failures and challenges. We believe that the government must do everything for us, ranging from good roads, affordable houses, food, education, and employment to many others. Anyone unable to maximize any of these things, eventually holds the government responsible for such.
We live in a society where we think that the government is supposed to do everything that brings happiness to everyone in the society and we judge every government based on the indices of many people's problems being solved. However, the primary responsibility of the government is to provide the basic needs of the people which are food, shelter, education, and clothing. Unfortunately, most governments of the world are unable to provide these to their people. In some climes, there have been issues of insecurity, unemployment, untimely death as a result of ineffective and inefficient health facilities, poor educational activities, and many other failures that happen as a result of the government's ineptitude and incapabilities.
With these happenings, does it mean that the government is innocent about all of these? Or are these challenges too bogus for the government to tackle? These questions always come to my mind because whenever I see people struggling for survival it pains me. After all, we believe that the government should be able to undertake most of the challenges of life for the people. Most of the deaths and suffering we go through in life are avoidable just that there might be no willpower for the government to undertake those responsibilities.
The government might fail in its primary responsibility but it is not the duty of the government to make you succeed. Success is as a result of skills and hard work. In a state where people complain about bad government, some private citizens are enjoying a good standard of living. During inflation and economic woes, a lot of people still build houses and get themselves cars and other things that make life comfortable. So the government might not make you rich, it is your responsibility to make yourself rich and comfortable in your environment.
I know people who are keen on shifting blame to the government. They think that the government should give them jobs, give them food, marry them, and also take good care of their families. The government might not be able to do all of these for you hence, it is your duty to work yourself out and have the better life you dream of. No government can comprehensively take responsibility for the citizens' welfare. If it happens, such a government will collapse, and anarchy might set in. So long as the government has been able to create an enabling environment for businesses and investments to thrive, then the people must work out their ways to success.
Government palliatives and welfare should be for the aged who lack caregivers and for people with disabilities and not for everyone. Whenever you look away from the government, you will realize that the government is not the reason why you're not succeeding.
