Faith in God: The greatest thing I learned from my father

Faith in God: The greatest thing I learned from my father.

I grew up seeing my dad as a committed follower of Jesus Christ. He wasn't a pastor but one of the great pillars of his local church. Whenever I sit back to reminisce about my father, I will see a man who truly trusted in God in all things. As a result of this, he lives a supernatural life, a life of victory and a life of total dominion.

My father was not wealthy but he lived a contented life. He was satisfied with all that he could afford. He never probed into the affairs of others. He never kept friendship with anyone except those from the household of faith.

One thing that stands out in his life and which has also affected me is the fact that he was always prayerful. As a result of this, he was fearless. We grew up in a toxic environment. An environment that was corrupted with all kinds of evil. There was moral decadence and filthy people who always set their rifles against my dad. Therefore any slightest provocation, they were ready to unleash their frustrations on him. With this, my father will always triumph over them in many ways.

One event that stood out for me was one fateful night during a night vigil in the church. The service ended at midnight and everyone was to spend the night in church till morning due to how rough the environment was. At that time, there was a cultural and evil display that always came out at night called “AKATA” in my local dialect. During this time, nobody is allowed to move outside. If you're eventually caught, you're either killed or maimed.

That night, my dad insisted that he must return home, but everyone kicked against it. He went home with me. We met the AKATA cult men, and they immediately ran against us, and when they came closer, they discovered it was my father. I ran behind him because I was so scared. Surprisingly, they hailed my father and escorted him to his house. Only God could make that happen.

Another incident happened in which a diabolical substance was kept for him to step on. It works in such a way that when the ringworm surrounds your waist area, you die mysteriously. The ringworm began to spread around him, and everyone advised him to visit a native doctor, but he refused. He prayed, and the ringworm died completely.

These are few of the many events that made me learn lots of lessons from my dad. Indeed, having strong faith in God is beneficial as evidence in the life of my father.

Your father is truly a great man, and I admire how inspired you are by his good character! I can see that he's a good role model to you, and the way you speak about him and how proud you feel of him resonates with me 👏

I believe that only faith can make such a man, and that's a good thing to see. Not everyone has very strong faith, but I'm very sure we're all working towards something that makes us unshakable. When you have illnesses and people tell you to go to the doctor, but then you pray over it, those are things that could sometimes make you doubt if you're doing the right thing or not. Because society tells you that's not the way it should be.

I am also a firm believer that faith moves mountains, meaning that faith can cure and heal. I am not a very religious person, but the other day I went to this shrine in my place. For several days, I think for a week or so, I had always felt this voice inside me, this calling, telling me to go to the shrine. I was having this gallbladder pain, and I wasn't always feeling well. Just when I thought that I was in the worst of the pain, I finally decided at 5:00 AM to travel two hours to get to that shrine with my family.

Believe it or not, something unexplainable happened. I woke up the next day after going through two hours of healing prayer, feeling like a million bucks: no pain, full of energy, and full of life. I realized how much we take for granted these little things. Just waking up feeling better, feeling normal, is not a privilege that everyone gets in this life. Yet we do have that, and that gives us hope. That day, I was very thankful. I don't know how it happened, but I know that during that time of prayer, I was there in my heart, and I believed.

I know that unshakable faith makes an unshakable person, but that faith is really hard to cultivate because we will always question as we go. So I completely understand your admiration for your father. I did not get the opportunity to have one that I admire so much, the same way as yours. I appreciate you sharing your story with us. Thank you!
