A Sunday Morning At Tarmas

“I have never had this kind of rest for the past five years,” Stone said, lying on the left corner of the bed.
“Really”? Charles responded facing the other side of the bedroom
“I have been a workaholic I just hope that I won't one day die working” he said jokingly
“You're making cool money na” Charles mused.
“Where's the money”? Stone said as he stood up and sat on the edge of the bed. “Bank jobs are not for the faint-hearted,” he added.
“That's the job that so many people are looking for, yet you're not appreciative of what you have” Charles cut in.
“Ha, I didn't say that I was not appreciative na just that,” he paused as he yawned, using his right hand to cover his mouth. “The work is too hectic for me” he concluded.
“My friend” Charles interrupted as he stood up too from the other end of the bed. “Give me the job, I love strenuous jobs, so long as I'm getting good pay at the end of the month” he added.
“You don't mean it”
“I mean it” Charles responded and both of them laughed together.
“But come to think of it”, Stone said, trying to get his attention and he did, as Charles’ Countenance began to focus on him. “You earn better than I do, working remotely and earning in hard currency is the best thing that could happen to anyone. I hope you know”? He queried.
“I don't know o” Charles responded casually
“Don't be silly my friend,” Stone said, stretching to hit him. Both of them laughed nevertheless, they were interrupted by a phone ringtone.

Charles went for his phone and a female voice from the other end said “I hope you slept well my darling” Stone could hear the voice of the caller from his end. Although the phone was not on a loudspeaker. He knew it was Charles's girlfriend. She has been a good friend to Charles and they have been dating for over five years. As a result, Stone has pestered him to ensure that he gets married to her. Meanwhile Stone has never been lucky in any relationship. In a space of five years, he has met about seven ladies yet none of them has met with the criteria he set for himself. Above all, he fears that those girls may be after his money.

“I will pass the message across to him” Charles said as he ended his call with “I love you too”.
“My girlfriend said that I should greet you”, looking at Stone.
“My regards to her too” he responded carelessly.
“...but on a serious note, you need to think…” Charles didn't complete his statement when Stone interrupted Him. He knew that he was going to talk about his relationship. “This is the topic I don't always like to talk about, I hope you know”?
“What did I want to talk about”? Charles asked acting sheepish
“Isn't it about my relationship”?
“So you even knew…”
“Do I look like a kid to you”?
“I didn't know that I had Methuselah as a friend,” Charles said as both of them laughed.

Not long after, the duo dressed up and stepped out to get what to cook for breakfast. It was a Sunday morning and the majority of the inhabitants of Tarmas were Christians. They do not joke with their religious activities, especially on Sunday mornings. It has been a culture that, if you want to eat on a Sunday morning, ensure that you buy your foodstuff on Saturday evening. Charles knew about this but he came back from a friend's wedding ceremony very late the previous day. As exhaustive as they were, they couldn't do anything else, other than to go to bed.

The road was busy with people heading to their various places of worship. The majority with their Bibles at hand, while some with their church hymn books and other paraphernalia of worship. After walking some miles, luck smiled at them and they sighted a store and decided to rush and get things before they closed and leave for church. Getting there, they couldn't imagine what they saw, the store was crowded with people lined up to get things.

“Are you sure we're going to be attended to”? Stone asked, disappointingly “You mean people don't sell on Sunday morning in this town”?
“Yes na” came the response from Charles.
“Nawa o so why don't you relocate to a civilized town”? Stone said, leaving the queue to get a place to sit close to the vicinity of the store. After some hours, everyone was attended to including Charles and his friend Stone.
After getting all that they needed, Charlse wanted to know why they were still attending to customers at past nine o’clock AM. The store's attendance replied. “we have realized that people need to eat on a Sunday morning too”. She handed over their bags to them and they went home fulfilled.

That was just a heart-to-heart discussion between Charles and Stone, those types of friendships are rare, but honestly, some jobs can be so tiring no matter the amount of money you earn
