A Depressed Christian
I don't know why I decided to write on this topic but I know that it is important for me to share this idea with my readers. This is because a lot is going on in society, and Christians are an integral part of society; hence, whatever that's happening will certainly affect the Christians as well. We have so many depressed people in our world today. Depression is caused by so many factors and chief amongst them is when expectations are not met or when bad things happen to a person. Bad things happen to everyone, including Christians, and this could cause depression.
I have seen situations where someone who calls himself a Christian as a result of the issues of this life will cry and be sober, looking so helpless. This is not the will of God for any child of God. God is loving and wouldn't want any of his children to pass through difficult situations although the difficulties might be so that such a person can learn a lesson and be mature in the faith. The fact is that very few Christians understand this reality. The majority of people think that God does not care, and that's why they are in trouble. As a result of this, many people have denounced the faith and turned to another.
James rightly put it…Jas.1.13 - Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
We pass through difficult situations because we are human and we live in an imperfect world.
I might not be wrong to say that a believer who is depressed as a result of the difficulties he is passing through does not trust the word of God. The Bible contains many promises of God that every believer should rely upon. A Christian is supposed to be hopeful and constantly believing the word of God; hence, these words should bring happiness and comfort and not make him depressed. For example:
Isa.41.10 - Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Phil.4.19 - But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Rom.8.32 - He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
The scriptures above and many more should be enough to make a depressed Christian rise and rejoice. It is not the will of God that any Christian should be depressed no matter the situation. Meditate on the word of God daily, receive every word in faith, and see how the word of God will work out wonders in your life. The role God plays is to always deliver us from all forms of troubles; therefore, it is expedient to trust in his word always.
