My Garden: A Desert Near My Soul π
For just over three years now, my garden has become a sanctuary of peace, a place where I find calm after a long day of work at the hospital. Itβs not a large or perfectly designed space, but every corner holds a small treasure: my collection of cacti and succulents. Each one has a story, whether it came to me as a special gift from a friend, was carefully chosen at a nursery, or was rescued from neglect, even from the street.
Among my favorites are the Astrophytums, with their almost geometric shapes and delicate blooms. The Opuntias, on the other hand, are sturdier and sometimes even a bit invasive, but I love their resilience and the way they multiply, as if reminding me that life always finds a way.
Succulents, though not cacti, share space with them, adding variety in textures and colors with their fleshy, water-storing leaves that give them that plump, juicy look making them so special.
And then there are the Mammillarias, small and round, some with soft spines and others more defensive, yet always adorned with pink, yellow, or white flowers that appear as if by magic.
The Agaves are the giants of the group, though I have one small one growing slowly. I know that one day it will dominate its pot with those thick, pointed leaves, and I like to think that, like it, I too am growing at my own pace, no rush, but no pause either.
Caring for them has become a ritual, watering them just enough, rotating them for even sunlight, repotting them when they outgrow their containers⦠All of it pulls me away from stress and brings me back to the simplicity of nature. Sometimes, when I come home exhausted, all it takes is spotting a new sprout or a blooming flower to remind me that good things take time.
My garden may be the tiniest on the block, yet it cradles a whole universe of calm. The cactiβsilent, steadfast, radiating quiet strengthβwhisper that even in adversity, flowering is possible. And this, when day fades, becomes my deepest inspiration.

I have cacti because they were given to me, but I'm not crazy about them. What I've been chasing for a while is an adenium, and they've become elusive.
The ones I love are succulents. I'll have to negotiate with you.
I loved

Muy hermosos. Realmente me encantan las plantas y, sobre todo, los cactus, son algo especial.
Los cactus son la expresiΓ³n de la resiliencia, y como siempre digo, jamΓ‘s te abandonan, permanecen siempre.

You have chosen an excellent way to slow down the fast pace of modern life, allowing yourself to immerse in nature, in the spiritual world of your plants. I have read some controlled studies that demonstrate how gardening reduces cortisol levels and the harmful effects of this hormone on health. I gift you this beautiful poem by Wordsworth:
"To a Cactus, and the Gardener Who Tends It"
O thornèd sovereign of the sunburnt waste,
How dost thou mock the tempest and the gale!
No tender leaf by whispering winds embraced,
Yet firm thou standβst when fiercer blasts assail.
And she who tends thee with such patient hand,
Like Natureβs self, doth draw from barren ground
A splendor harsh, yet beautiful and planned,
Where life persists though all seems bleak around.
Oh! BlessΓ¨d pairβthe flower that scorns the storm,
The maid whose art sustains thy defiant form.
Your garden sounds so peaceful and special. I love how each plant ha sits own story. It's amazing how they bring you calm and joy after work. Your cactus and succulent is super wow, so healthy. I remember during my wedding that is our one of the souvenir.
I have a pretty stressful job, and well, life can be that hectic too, but my plants are always there waiting for me. One of the things I enjoy the most is watering them. It's therapy for me.
A big hug, and thank you for reading me and being part of this love for plants.
Those are lovely succulents!
