Breast Cancer Awareness — Early Detection Saves Lives
The month of October is dedicated Breast Cancer and the numbers from morbidity & mortality rates of this disease speaks volume as to why it is a month and not just a day.
Breast cancer isn’t just statistics — it’s a reality that touches families, friends, and communities.
Here comes the comfort:
when detected early, breast cancer is highly treatable and curable
Risk Factors of Breast Cancer
- Genes
- Family history of breast cancer
- Obesity
- Alcohol
- Exposure to radiation
- Early age of first menarche,
- Pregnancy at a very late age
- Hormonal therapies
- Old age
- Late menopause
- Poor diet
As you can see, some of these factors aren't something you have control over, which is where Breast Self Examination plays a big role ; To help you detect it early!!
Check yourself regularly
Do a monthly breast self-exam and what are you looking out for?
- lumps
- Nipple discharge
- Skin dimpling
- Changes in breast shape.
If any abnormality is detected, no matter how small or painless, quickly consult your doctor as early presentation makes a huge difference in the prognosis.
Women above 55 years of age should get a mammogram check at least once a year

You have a big role of reminding your partners about this and can help her do it too
