Hi, I'm Jessica
The cloud, the wind, the music, everything set up perfectly for Nelson that evening. He needed a safe place to clear his head, somewhere he didn't need to think or worry about the current problems he was facing. He cleaned up, took his portable speaker, and drove straight to an open field less than a mile from his house. The field was beautiful, the smell of freshly cut grass filled the air, people were gathered in different groups, chatting and dancing. They seemed to be having a good time.
He made his way to the corner of the field, setting up his mat under a tree as he unpacked the contents of his bag, his speaker, light snacks enough to feed three people, and a book to read in case he got bored. He sat on the mat and listened to the playlist he created for the evening as he watched the people in the distance laugh and talk to each other. The sun wasn't too much for his skin, the clouds covered it up just enough to cool the entire field.
He felt lighter, listening to music as the watched the children play and the birds sing.
"Hi, good evening, sorry to bother you, I just wanted to know the name of the song you are playing".
He looked behind him, a girl stood there. He couldn't see her clearly because his body was turned the other way but she smelled nice, the wind blew her perfume toward him.
"Huh?"
"The song you are playing, what's the name?", she repeated.
"Oh, I'm not sure, it's from a random artiste online, I haven't even heard it before but I can check for you if you want", he responded.
He turned to face her, she was beautiful, her hair braided backward. The hair was black but had gold tips. She wore a black jean jacket and a blue skirt.
"That'd be nice"
He picked up his phone and told her the name of the song. He watched as she pulled her phone to write it down with a smile on her face, a smile he thought to be beautiful.
"Thank you so much", she said.
"My name is Nelson by the way".
"Jessica, my name is Jessica".
"Nice to meet Jessica".
"It's nice to meet you too", she said waving her fingers. "Why are you here alone, are you waiting for someone?".
"No", Nelson responded", "I just came here to relax and listen to music, the week hasn't been kind".
"That sounds sad", she said sarcastically.
He smiled causing her to smile too. "What about you?", he asked, "What are you doing here?".
"I'm supposed to meet up with some friends but they're not here yet", she replied.
"You're welcome to wait here with me until they come if you like".
"Thank you", Jessica said as she sat on the mat. "How often do you come here? I don't want to know how many bad weeks you have".
"Not very often, just on the days I plan on meeting pretty people".
He could see her blush even when she tried to cover it. They talked for a while, about their favorite artists and songs and how the world would be a beautiful place if everybody just listened to them.
"I have to go now, that's them", she said pointing to a group of girls that had just arrived on the field. "You know you're welcome to join us too if you want".
"Thank you but no, I'd like to be alone, the crowd seems much", Nelson replied with a smile.
She waved to her friends and said goodbye hoping he'd join them later.
"Uhm, before I go, where's your phone?".
"Right here", he said stretching it toward her.
"Here's my number before I go just in case you're having another shitty week and you need company", she said.
"I look forward to another shitty week', Nelson replied.
"It's a date then", Jessica said smiling, walking to meet her friends. Nelson watched from a distance as she greeted them. He knew he was going to call her again, shitty week or not.
What a miraculous catch by Nelson. Or isn't it? Lol😄
Jessica was bored, yes and she needed one to talk while waiting for her friends and smart approach paid off
Haha he's definitely going to call her again... Shitty week might not come sooner than he wants it to 🤣
It's amazing what music could do to love... They found themselves through music, so lovely.
Well written story, I enjoyed the conversation more 😊
This is certainly a sweet story of how circumstance can bring people together in the most sweeping ways. Nelson was lucky to find someone to share his snacks with, as well as an enjoyable conversation. However, it would have been nice to see the main character here developed a bit.
By adding in some details about why he was having a bad week, it would give his character more depth. We hope this feedback helps. Thank you for sharing your story with us, and for your engagement with other members of the community.
It was something unexpected, it really is something that happens, one fine day we woke up and found a very pleasant situation. the meeting with the girl really improved his week. Very good work.
Thanks for sharing.
Good day.
