A deal is a deal

I like to think of myself as an indoor guy, an introvert if you will. My room is my safe place, a place where I can be myself and dance in front of a mirror without the fear of being starred at or judged. The comfort my bed gives me in like no other, on the good days and bad. The point I'm trying to make it I've gotten so used to staying indoors that it has become a part of me.

My phone rang that evening, it was Cynthia. Cynthia was a childhood friend, we had a lot of things in common. We loved the same movies, the same songs, even the same food. She was best known for trying to get me out of the house because unlike me, she was very social.

She got invited to the best parties and got to hang out with the best crowds. I didn't get invited much but since I moved around with Cynthia, they had to invite me sometimes. She called to tell me we were going out to eat that evening. I told her we had a lot of food in the house and I didn't mind cooking if it meant we could stay inside but she insisted we go out and told me she'd come all the way to my place to drag me out of bed. I knew Cynthia very well, she was going to do it because she had done it several times in the past.

I spent the rest of the day trying to come up with other excuses as to why I couldn't go out, I even planned to hit myself hard on the foot so I couldn't walk. Around 6 o'clock in the evening, I heard a knock on my door. It was Cynthia coming to drag me out of the house for our outing. I tried to give her reasons why going out was dangerous but she was a mountain and she would not be moved so I did what ever introvert would do, I bargained.

I told her we would leave immediately if she agreed to hangout out at my place for the next month. She had a counter offered. She said if we went out and I didn't enjoy myself, she'd move in with me for a month, and all our activities would be done indoor. If I did enjoy the outing, I'd have to spent every weekend going out with her and I go to every party we were invited to.

I agreed, all I needed to do was pretend not to have fun and I win. Moving in with me was easy for a month since she lived a couple of blocks away from me. She could easy go home to grab what she needed and come back.

She had the whole evening planned out well, we went to eat at a local restaurant down the street which had the best rice and stew in my opinion and then we walk and talked on an open field not too far from the restaurant. The evening was magical, the sound of cars filled the air as they splashed water on the road with their tyres. It started getting dark and the sound of the car were slowly overshadowed by crickets.

We walked back to her place to drop her off.

"I didn't enjoy it so I win", I said as she tried to unlock her door.

"I guess I'll be seeing you tomorrow then, a deal is a deal", she replied as she opened the door. I didn't bother to go in, it wasn't a date, we were good friends, nothing more. She hugged me and said goodbye, entering her house and shutting the door behind her.

I did enjoy the night but I wasn't going to tell her that. Truth it I enjoyed spending time with her but if we were going to hang out, we were going to do it on my terms. The next month was fun, she didn't completely move in but she came over most of the time, we binge watched our favorite tv shows, we saw game of thrones twice if I recall correctly. Sometimes, I suggested we go out because I knew she liked going out and if I was being honest, she won fair and square but I wasn't going to tell her that.

She hugged me and said goodbye

Both of you were hugging, but you are just friends? I don't think so, man!

Anyway, enjoying time in your safe space is understandable, especially since I'm an introvert too. I think I'm introverted in that I prefer to stay in my four-cornered room, but I also enjoy interacting with others too! Throughout my entire being, I realized it's also important to step out of our comfort zone and try new things. It can help us to grow as a person and potentially lead to new opportunities and experiences.

This is interesting. I love making deals like this where I get to hang out at a friend´s place, like a male 😁
You both enjoyed yourself. I love when deals are not compromised but fulfilled successfully than finding excuses for not meeting up with them.

I think you cheated!!! And I also think your friend noticed. hahahaha. In the end she won because you did enjoy the outing. But I think she, like you, also wanted to spend some time with you in the apartment. The deal was convenient for both of us. Regards

What a friend you had in Cynthia! She seems to be the kind of person one would enjoy being with all the time, and it's no surprise you thoroughly enjoyed yourself during your outing together. Though I understand why you held back the truth from her as to whether you enjoyed the outing or not--you still love your introverted lifestyle.
