How to plant areca palm trees in your yard? Read the following guide until it's finished, come on!

Areca palm trees can be grown from seeds. The planting process is quite easy, but it requires patience to wait for the growth until harvest time arrives. This is because betel nut trees can only be harvested when they are about 4 years old when they have been planted.

However, this waiting time will usually be balanced with the benefits that the areca palm tree will provide. To start planting, here are the steps for planting areca palm trees that you can apply at home:

Choose areca nuts that are healthy and perfectly ripe, namely those that are orange in color. In general, the requirements for good quality seeds are large, uniform size, with a weight of more than 35 grams.

Soak the seeds in water for 7 to 10 days to speed up the germination process. This is necessary because the seed coat is quite hard so special treatment is needed to soften it.

Seed seeds on fertile soil tightly in a horizontal position for germination. Then, cover it lightly with soil so that the seeds are damp. You can also add mulch on top to keep the seeding medium moist. Give watering in the morning and evening.

The germination process will usually take 1.5 to 2 months

Prepare a container or polybag and fill it with planting medium. The type of planting medium preferred by areca palm trees is peat or clay soil which is medium textured, fertile, and has an acidity level (pH) of 5-8. In addition, the soil should also have the ability to hold moisture well, but also be able to drain water. Avoid using dense clay.

Transfer the sprouts into a polybag and shallow plant them 4 cm deep. Cover it with soil so that it is even with the surface of the planting medium.

Place the seeds in an area that is not exposed to direct sunlight or in the shade. Do regular watering every morning and evening.

Around 1.5 months, the seeds usually start to grow. Good seed growth is characterized by a relatively large stem base resembling a bottle and curved leaves.

When the plants grow bigger, move them to a larger poly bag. At the age of 7 months to 1 year, the seedlings are ready to be transferred to permanent planting media.

Prepare land for planting areca nut. Areca palm trees need full sunlight (6-8 hours per day) to grow optimally. So, try to plant it in a yard that doesn't get shade.

Make a planting hole that is larger than the size of the nursery polybag. This is usually recommended to be done one month before planting.

Fill the planting hole with a mixture of fertile soil and organic fertilizer.

When planting seeds, dig the hole and plant the seeds carefully. Tear the polybag without damaging the planting medium so as not to damage the plant roots.

Cover it again with soil and compact the soil around it so that the plant is sturdy or does not wobble.

After the planting process, areca palm trees require care, including replanting, weeding and fertilizing. Fertilization is usually recommended twice a year, namely at the beginning and end of the rainy season.

When the harvest season arrives, areca nuts can be harvested once every month. A sign that fruit is ready to harvest is yellow or reddish in color. However, you can also harvest it when the fruit is still young, namely when it is still green. The results of this harvest can be used to be processed into medicinal concoctions by boiling or making juice.

So, that's how to plant areca palm trees in your yard that is easy to implement. If you are interested in planting it and want to save a little time, you can also consider buying areca plant seeds that have already grown.
