Hello, anime fans. This time, I'm bringing you a TOP list that's different from the others I've done so far. It's about five anime that aren't very popular, but that became part of a subgenre or demographic that is very common in the anime industry. That's right, I'm talking about Slice of Life, a type of anime that differs from others in that it features calm stories related to everyday life. These are the kind of works you would only watch when you want to relax and hang out with something that has almost no action, drama, romance, or mystery. Simple stories that are easy to watch and enjoy without further ado.
As I have seen anime of different types and genres, I decided to make this top list since more Slice of Life anime than usual were broadcast this spring season. Personally, it's not one of those top lists that I like to make since it's not a genre I'm entirely familiar with. Nevertheless, as I always do in all my top lists, I will rate each anime I discuss below from 1 to 10, starting with the lowest rating and ending with the highest. I would also like to remind you that everything you read here is solely my honest opinion. If you are knowledgeable about or a fan of these types of calm and unpopular anime, then I invite you to stay until the end.

Es acerca de cinco animes que no son muy populares, pero que llegaron a ser parte de un subgénero o demografía que se ve mucho en la industria del anime. Así es, estoy hablando del Slice of Life, un tipo de animes que se diferencian de los demás al tratarse de historias tranquilas relacionadas a la vida cotidiana. Son de ese tipo de obras que verías únicamente cuando quieres relajarte nomás y pasar el rato con algo que no tenga casi nada de acción, drama, romance o misterio. Historias sencillas y fáciles de ver y disfrutar sin más.
Como he visto animes de distintos tipos y géneros, consideré hacer este top ya que en esta temporada de primavera se emitieron más animes Slice of Life de lo normal. En lo personal, no es de esos TOPs que me gustan hacer ya que no es un género del cual esté del todo familiarizado. Igualmente, como siempre hago en todos los tops, voy a calificar cada anime que hablaré a continuación del 1 al 10 empezando por el de menor calificación y terminado con el de mayor calificación. También les recuerdo que todo lo que leerán será únicamente mi más sincera opinión. Si eres conocedor o fan de este tipo de animes tranquilos y poco populares, entonces te invito a que te quedes hasta el final.

Zatsu Tabi: That's Journey
Let's start with one of the most peaceful and relaxing anime series I've seen to date. An anime that, honestly, I didn't even finish watching because it's so boring. But don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of this style of anime in the end (at least not the ones that lack a plot that grabs me). Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Kenta Ishizaka, this animated adaptation was produced by Makaria studio. The anime introduces us to Chika Suzugamori, a college student who aspires to be a manga artist. After many failed attempts to serialize one of her works, she decides to "escape" from everything and go on a trip to wherever her followers decide she should visit in Japan.
As I said at the beginning, this is the typical Slice of Life anime related to traveling around Japan that is broadcast every so often throughout the year. It doesn't have an amazing story, far from it, nor does it have any drama or anything shocking or intense to offer, to be honest. It's one of those works made for people who like to watch calm and relaxing stories from time to time. One good thing about this anime—at least—is the way it shows us each of the different districts in Japan, or at least the most popular ones. In each episode, we see tours of different popular, religious, and traditional places, and we also learn about their cuisine and culture in general. As for the characters, there's not much to say either. Especially the protagonist, who is everything I described above.
The only noteworthy thing may be the way she chooses where to travel by conducting a survey on a social network similar to Twitter, where her followers choose where to go on her next trip. Otherwise, the other characters don't stand out much, beyond just drawing attention with their unique personalities and the light humor they bring to the work. On the other hand, there's not much to say about the animation either, as it's a decent adaptation that gives us excellent views of the landscapes and places where the protagonist travels. The vivid color palette, visual effects, and animation style and character design are also decent. In short, it's just an anime to pass the time.
Personally, I give it a rating of 5/10 in terms of the Slice of Life genre.

Empecemos con uno de los animes más tranquilos y relajantes que he visto hasta la actualidad. Un anime que, sinceramente, ni terminé de verlo completo por lo aburrido que es. Pero no me malinterpreten, no soy muy fan de este estilo de animes al final (al menos no de los que les falta una trama que me atrape). Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Kenta Ishizaka, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio Makaria. El anime nos presenta a Chika Suzugamori, una estudiante universitaria que aspira ser mangaka. Luego de tantos intentos fallidos por serializar una de sus obras, decide “escapar” de todo e irse de viaje a cualquier parte de Japón que sus seguidores decidan que vaya a visitar.
Tal y como les dije al principio, este es el típico anime Slice of Life relacionado a viajes por Japón que cada cierto tiempo se emite al año. No tiene una historia asombrosa ni mucho menos, tampoco tiene drama ni nada impactante o intenso por ofrecer, la verdad. Es de esas obras hechas para la gente que les gusta ver historias tranquilas y relajantes de vez en cuando. Algo bueno que tiene este anime -por lo menos- es la manera en la que nos enseña cada uno de los distintos distritos que hay en Japón, o al menos los más populares. En cada episodio se pueden ver recorridos por distintos lugares populares, religiosos y tradicionales que existen; así como también aprendemos de su gastronomía y cultura en general, también. En cuanto a los personajes, tampoco hay mucho que decir. En especial la protagonista que es todo lo que describí arriba.
Lo único destacable puede que sea su forma de escoger a dónde viajar haciendo una encuesta en una red social similar a Twitter donde la gente que la sigue escogen dónde ir en su próxima salida. De resto, los demás personajes no destacan mucho, más allá de solo llamar la atención con sus personalidades únicas y el humor ligero que le dan a la obra. Por otro lado, en cuanto al tema de la animación tampoco hay mucho de qué hablar, siendo una adaptación decente que cumple con darnos vistas excelentes de los paisajes y lugares a donde viaja la protagonista. La paleta de colores vivos, los efectos visuales y el estilo de animación y diseño de personajes están decentes también. En resumen, es un anime para pasar el rato, nomás.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 5/10 en lo que respecta al género Slice of Life.

Catch Me at the Ballpark!
Let's talk now about another anime that I decided to watch this season thinking it was related to the sports genre. But what it ended up being was just a slice-of-life anime with light humor and short stories, nothing more. Another anime that went unnoticed for obvious reasons, although baseball fans might find it interesting. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Tatsurō Suga, this animated adaptation was produced by the studio ETM Squared. The anime introduces us to a young salaryman who seeks to escape the routine of his job by going to the baseball stadium closest to his office. There, he asks a street vendor for a beer, but the girl stays with him instead of walking away after the purchase.
I didn't used to watch this type of anime or give it a chance because I found it quite boring and uninteresting for my taste. But after watching this anime, I reaffirm this and with good reason. Mind you, I'm not saying it's a bad anime, as there's nothing wrong with it per se. It's more a matter of taste, I think, as these kinds of quiet, everyday stories don't really appeal to me. Especially when it comes to the members of a baseball stadium, which is pretty much what this anime is about. Visitors, workers, and players all tell their stories, and in each episode we learn about what they experience and face on a daily basis. As I said above, this is something that fans of the Slice of Life genre or sports in general might find interesting, but personally, that's not the case for me.
As for the characters, it can be said that they fulfill their respective roles. The mix of humor is remarkable, and the short, simple stories only make you feel somewhat familiar with the sport or the secular or social life of a member of these professions. Although, of course, this is not my case, since I am not interested in baseball or the stories told in this series. I didn't finish watching this anime either, as is to be expected, just like in the previous case. The animation, on the other hand, is decent, although it doesn't improve much compared to Zatsu Tabi. The character design, color palette, lack of fluidity, and details are hardly noteworthy. It's not a great production or adaptation, far from it, to be honest. Although I don't think much was expected from an anime like this, to be honest.
Personally, I give it a rating of 6/10 in terms of the Slice of Life genre.

Hablemos ahora de otro anime que decidí ver en esta temporada pensando que estaba relacionado con el género del deporte. Pero lo que terminó siendo fue nomás un Slice of Life con un humor ligero e historias cortas sin más. Otro anime que llegó a pasar desaparecido por obvias razones, aunque para los fans del béisbol puede que les interese. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Tatsurō Suga, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio ETM Squared. El anime nos presenta a un joven asalariado que busca escapar de la rutina de su trabajo yendo al estadio de béisbol más cercano a su oficina. Allí le pide a una vendedora ambulante una cerveza, pero la chica se queda junto a él en vez de alejarse luego de la compra.
Normalmente este tipo de animes no los veía antes ni les daba ninguna oportunidad porque los sentía bastante aburridos y muy poco interesantes para mi gusto. Pero luego de haber visto este anime reafirmo esto y con toda razón. Ojo, no es por decir que es un mal anime, ya que no tiene nada que sea malo en sí. Es más por cuestiones de gustos, creo, ya que este tipo de historias tranquilas y de la vida cotidiana no me llaman casi la atención. Menos si se trata de los miembros de un estadio de béisbol que es prácticamente de lo que trata este anime. Tanto los visitantes como los trabajadores y jugadores cuentan sus historias y en cada episodio conocemos lo que viven y afrontan día a día. Como dije arriba, esto es algo que a algún fan del género Slice of Life o del deporte en sí le interese, pero en lo personal no es el caso.
En cuanto a los personajes, se puede decir que cumplen con cubrir los papeles correspondientes. La mezcla de humor es notable y las historias cortas y sencillas solo hacen que te sientas un tanto familiarizado con el deporte o la vida seglar o social de un miembro de estos oficios. Aunque, claro, este no es mi caso ya que ni me interesa el béisbol ni las historias que cuenta esta serie. Este anime tampoco lo terminé de ver completo, como no es de sorprender, al igual que en el caso anterior. Su animación, por otro lado, es decente aunque no mejora mucho en comparación con Zatsu Tabi. El diseño de los personajes, la paleta de colores, la poca fluidez y los detalles son apenas destacables. No es una gran producción o adaptación ni muchísimo menos, la verdad. Aunque tampoco creo que se esperara mucho de un anime como este, sinceramente.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 6/10 en lo que respecta al género Slice of Life.

Now we move on from travel and sports to food with this anime, which I did watch in its entirety, and that alone is progress from here on out. An almost perfect combination that can often be found in this industry is Slice of Life with Gastronomy (another recognized genre in the world of anime and in general). This incredible duo is a favorite among fans of this type of work, which is almost always broadcast every season. Food for the Soul is nothing less than an original Japanese animated television series created by Atto and produced by the studio P.A. Works. The anime tells the story of Mako Wakai, a college student who lives quietly in her apartment, alone and without any company due to her shyness. However, when she meets her friend from high school, Shinon Ogawa, she asks her to join her in creating a club dedicated to gastronomy.
Although I have made it clear more than once that quiet stories are not my thing, there are several exceptions, as is the case with this anime. Whether it's because of its excellent production or its unique way of telling a story and presenting its characters, this anime captivated me in a mysterious way from the very first episode. While I am by no means an expert in gastronomy, I admit that learning about it in a culture as vast as Japan's is one of the most interesting things you can find in a work of this style. The mix of light humor with a simple story to follow is something I like about this series, for a change. But beyond all this, there's not much else to salvage, to be honest. Although I think it's very good for an original anime. As for the characters, each one manages to stand out on their own and is easy to identify with and become familiar with.
Some of them are given a touch of development throughout the anime, which I really appreciate. I like that these types of stories manage to deal with issues and situations that may be very common for many of us, but with a point of view and a final message that can be meaningful to anyone who watches it. Another thing I really like about this anime is its animation, since it was produced by one of the best studios I know, so it's no surprise that it's excellent quality from start to finish. Especially with the theme of food and how it's prepared, it's like watching an animated tutorial with excellent details and incredible fluidity and quality. The color palette, drawing style, and soundtrack are also top-notch. In short, this is an anime I recommend watching, especially if you're a fan of culinary life.

Esta increíble dupla es de lo más preferido para los fans de este tipo de obras que casi siempre se emiten cada temporada. Aunque considero que está muy bien para ser un anime original. En cuanto al tema de los personajes, cada uno logra destacarse por sí mismo y es fácil identificarlos y familiarizarse con ellos.
A algunos le dan un toque de desarrollo a lo largo del anime, cosa que agradezco bastante. Me gusta que este tipo de historias logren tratar temas y situaciones que pueden ser muy comunes para muchos de nosotros, pero con un punto de vista y con un mensaje final que puede llegar a ser significativo para cualquier el que lo vea. Otra cosa que me gusta mucho de este anime es su animación, ya que al ser el que la produjo uno de los mejores estudios que he conocido, es normal que tenga una excelente calidad de principio a fin. Sobre todo con el tema de las comidas y cómo son preparadas es como ver un tutorial animado con excelentes detalles y una fluidez y calidad increíbles. La paleta de colores, el estilo de dibujo y la banda sonora son de lo mejor también. En resumen, este es un anime que recomiendo ver, sobre todo si eres fan de la vida culinaria.

However, unlike the previous works we've presented in this top list, this Slice of Life has a style of humor and aesthetic quality that you simply won't be able to resist watching, no matter how hard you try. Based on the four-panel manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Afro, this animated adaptation was produced by the Soigne studio. The anime tells us about the life of Satsuki Amamiya, the current president of the school's photography club. This club joins forces with the film club to create the Cinefoto club. Together with Ann and Sakurako, they will travel to various places in Japan to capture the beautiful nature of this country and also spend time enjoying its cuisine.
I don't know if it's because of the melodramatic yet funny start to this anime or because of its high audiovisual quality that completely captivated me. However, when evaluating the objective of this photography and film club, we can see how we go from looking for an entertaining way to take unique photos to traveling to different parts of Japan to see impressive and beautiful landscapes, as well as learning a little about its culture and cuisine. Best of all, the humor and characteristic style of this anime is maintained from beginning to end, with each episode funnier than the last.
As for the characters, it's easy to feel familiar with them from the start. Their personalities and sense of humor make the experience we see in each episode much more enjoyable than usual. The mix of humor and horror is something to be enjoyed with moments that you simply cannot forget. The animation, on the other hand, is another world. I am quite fascinated by how they manage to show us the different modern styles of photography that exist, especially with the 360-degree panoramic shots, which are wonderful for their level of detail and dazzling visual quality. The landscapes are perfect for wallpapers. The drawing style, character designs, and fluidity of the anime are among the best to be found this season. The soundtrack is also wonderful, especially the opening and ending themes. In short, this is another anime that I highly recommend if you like this type of entertaining work.

Lo mejor de todo es que el tema del humor y el estilo característico que tiene este anime se mantiene de principio a fin con un episodio más divertido que el anterior.
En cuanto al tema de los personajes, es fácil que te sientas familiarizado con ellos desde el principio. Sus personalidades y el sentido de humor que tienen hace que la experiencia que veremos en cada episodio sea mucho más amena de lo normal. We end this list with what, for me, is another one of those surprises of the season that is hard to overlook. A slice-of-life anime that earned this spot not because of its production value or its story full of adventures, travels, and so on, but because it offers something much more realistic and profound than it appears to be. Based on the series of novels entitled Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery, this animated adaptation was produced by The Answer Studio. The anime tells the story of Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan who is adopted by the Cuthbert siblings, owners of Green Gables. Her enormous imagination gives her a cheerful and witty personality, although she is also very temperamental and sensitive.
This doesn't happen to me often, but every time I see a work of this style, it's hard not to give it a chance and then be impressed by its story and everything it has to tell. And it's no surprise to learn that it's a dramatic work hidden in a Slice of Life. This is one of many adaptations that have been made of this series of novels over the decades, and I consider it to be the best, not only because it is an anime version. Although at first it didn't really impress me, beyond feeling a certain dislike for the protagonist because of her hyperactive personality, over time I became more hooked on the story in general and the direction of the secondary characters. I think it was more the way it deals with topics such as happiness, dreams, the future, life, and even death in a unique way and with appropriate humor that doesn't feel bad at all.
While there are certain characters you may come to despise, there are also characters you can't help but identify with in one way or another. What I like most about this anime is that each episode is unpredictable, as in one episode you can have fun seeing how difficult it is to have a pair of twins with completely different personalities, and in the next episode you can see your favorite character breathe their last breath. That's why I'm putting this anime in this spot because of its story and the deep themes it deals with. On the other hand, its animation is very well done, although it's not the best animation ever. Its bright and vivid color palette, animation style, and character design are the most noteworthy. There are also its visual and sound effects, as well as its wonderful soundtrack. In short, this is the most emotional and relaxing anime that I recommend watching from this top list.
Personally, I give it a 10/10 rating in terms of the drama and Slice of Life genres.

Finalizamos este top con el que, para mí, es otra de esas sorpresas de la temporada que es difícil dejar pasar por alto. Un Slice of Life que consiguió este puesto no por su nivel de producción o su historia repleta de aventuras, viajes y demás; sino por ofrecer algo mucho más realista y profundo de lo que aparenta ser. Basada en la serie de novelas titulada Anne of Green Gables de Lucy Maud Montgomery, esta adaptación animada fue producida por The Answer Studio. Creo que fue más la forma en la que trata temas como la felicidad, los sueños, el futuro, la vida e incluso la muerte de una manera única y con un humor oportuno que no sienta para nada mal.
Si bien hay ciertos personajes que puedes llegar a despreciar, también hay personajes que no podrás evitar sentirte identificado de alguna u otra manera. Lo que más me gusta de este anime es que cada episodio es incierto, ya que en uno puedes divertirte al ver lo difícil que es tener a un par de gemelos con personalidades completamente diferentes y al siguiente episodio ver a tu personaje favorito dar su último aliento. Es por eso que coloco este anime en este puesto debido a su historia y los temas profundos que trata. Por otro lado, su animación está muy bien hecha, aunque no es la mejor animación de todas. Su paleta de colores vivos y brillantes, su estilo de animación y el diseño de los personajes son de lo más destacable. También está sus efectos visuales y de sonido, así como también su banda sonora que es una maravilla. En fin, este es el anime más emotivo y a la vez relajante que recomiendo ver de este top.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 10/10 en lo que respecta al género del drama y el Slice of Life.
