Top 5 Fantasy Animes of the Spring Season (2025) | Nattosheru Review [ENG/SPA]
Hello, anime fans. Over the last three months, several very diverse fantasy anime series have been broadcast. Some have stories that are worth knowing about, and I say that as someone who has seen dozens of anime series of this type. As one of the most popular and highly overexploited genres in the industry, fantasy has such a huge variety of works and stories that it is difficult to find something new that really catches your attention. That's why I write these kinds of posts, in which I discuss and rate the best anime I've seen, or at least those that are worth watching.
As always, I remind you that I rate the anime I discuss in these quarterly TOP lists on a scale of 1 to 10, starting with the lowest rating and ending with the highest. Don't forget that everything you'll read below is just my honest opinion of each anime after watching them in their entirety. If you're a fan of the fantasy genre and are looking for something new, different, and worthwhile, then I invite you to stay and watch this top list until the end and find what you're looking for.

Hola, fanáticos del anime. Durante estos últimos tres meses se han emitido varios animes del género de fantasía muy diversos. Algunos poseen historias que valen la pena conocer y eso que lo digo yo que he visto decenas de animes de este tipo. Como uno de los géneros más populares y altamente sobreexplotados de la industria, la fantasía tiene una enorme variedad de obras e historias que es difícil encontrar algo nuevo que verdaderamente llame la atención. Es por esto que hago este tipo de publicaciones en las que hablo y califico de entre los que he visto los mejores animes o al menos los que siquiera valen la pena ver.
Como siempre, les recuerdo que los animes de los que hablo en estos TOPs que hago cada trimestre los clasifico valorándose del 1 al 10, empezando por el de menor calificación y terminando con el de mayor calificación. No olviden que todo lo que leerán a continuación es solo mi más sincera opinión de cada anime luego de haberlas visto por completo en emisión. Si eres fan del género de fantasía y buscas algo nuevo, diferente y que valga la pena; entonces te invito a que te quedes a ver este top hasta el final y logres encontrar lo que estás buscando.

The Gorilla God's Go-To Girl
We begin this list with a fantasy, romance, and action anime that did not attract much attention this season for obvious reasons. It is one of those stories that has surely been told repeatedly with different names and adaptations each season. However, despite this, it serves to complete this list and highlight the most generic aspect of this industry. Based on the web novel series of the same name written by Shirohi (although they are always based more on the manga that is later published for each work), this animated adaptation was produced by the Kashigarasu studio. The anime tells the story of Sophia Reeler, a young woman who, at the age of 16—as is common in this fantasy world—is given a "blessing" from one of the "Animal Gods" that exist. Unfortunately for her, the blessing she receives is one of the rarest that exists.
Honestly, if I had a dollar for every generic fantasy anime with a long Japanese name and a female protagonist with her own harem of men, I'd have enough to buy myself some better wireless headphones. The number of series of this style is comparable to the absurd number of Isekais that exist within this genre, without exaggeration. And worst of all, there seems to be no end in sight, as every season there is always one or two works with the same plot and the same clichés as always on air. Protagonists with gifted powers in a fantasy world, a group of secondary characters of the opposite sex who feel something for the protagonist as soon as they meet him, enemies who only seek revenge or cause evil, but who have not even done anything truly evil and are only there to make the protagonist stand out more. All this and more is what we can see in this series.
At least this particular work has something slightly positive, and that is the love story we see in the background, which is not bad and does not have as many clichés as expected. But instead of expecting something more, it is better not to expect almost anything from this story. Both the action with the character developments and the plot twists are as generic and predictable as possible. Even in terms of animation, don't expect much either, as it is apparently a low-budget production. The animation is barely decent and the fluidity is lacking. The same goes for the basic visual effects and sound effects. The character designs are decent too, as are the battle scenes, which are nothing to write home about. In short, this is an anime that I wouldn't recommend, honestly, but if you like fantasy, then you can watch it at your own discretion.
Personally, I give it a rating of 6.5/10 in terms of the fantasy and romance genre.

Empezamos este top con un anime de fantasía, romance y acción que no llamó mucho la atención esta temporada debido a obvias razones. Una de esas historias que seguramente se han contado ya en repetidas ocasiones con otros nombres y otras adaptaciones cada temporada. Pero a pesar de esto, al menos sirve para completar esta lista y a la vez hablar de lo más genérico que haya en esta industria. Basada en la serie de novelas web homónimas escritas por Shirohi (aunque siempre se basan más en el manga que posteriormente publican de cada obra), esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio Kashigarasu. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Sophia Reeler, una joven que a sus 16 años -como es común en este mundo de fantasía- se le otorga una “bendición” de uno de los “Dioses Animales” que existen. Para su infortunio, la bendición que recibe es de las más raras que existen.
Sinceramente, si me dieran un dólar por cada anime de fantasía genérico con nombre largo en japonés y una protagonista con su propio harem de hombres, tendría lo suficiente para comprarme unos mejores audífonos inalámbricos. La cantidad de series de este estilo es comparable a la cantidad absurda de Isekais que existen dentro de este género, sin exagerar. Y lo peor de todo es que no parece tener un final, ya que cada temporada siempre hay una que otra obra con la misma trama y los mismos clichés de siempre en emisión. Protagonistas con poderes regalados en un mundo fantástico, un grupo de personas secundarios del sexo opuesto que sienten algo por el protagonista apenas conociéndolo, enemigos que solo buscan venganza o causar el mal, pero que ni siquiera han hecho algún acto realmente malvado y que solo están para hacer resaltar más al protagonista. Todo esto y más es lo que podemos ver en esta serie.
Al menos algo ligeramente positivo tiene esta obra en particular y es la historia de amor que vemos de trasfondo, el cual no está mal ni tiene tantos clichés de lo esperado. Pero en lugar de esperar algo más, es mejor que no esperes casi nada de esta historia. Tanto la acción con los desarrollos de personajes y los giros de trama son de lo más genérico y predecible posible. Incluso en cuanto al tema de la animación no esperes mucho tampoco al tratarse de una producción de bajo presupuesto aparente. La animación es apenas decente y la fluidez es de lo más carente que hay. Lo mismo sucede con el tema de los efectos visuales básicos que tiene y los efectos de sonido. Los diseños de los personajes son decentes también, lo mismo que con las escenas de batallas que no son la gran cosa. En fin, este es un anime que no recomendaría, sinceramente, pero si te gusta la fantasía entonces la puedes ver a tu propia discreción.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 6.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía y romance.

From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman: My Hotshot Disciples Are All Grown Up Now and They Won't Leave Me Alone
Let's talk now about another fantasy and action anime that personally caught my attention because of its plot and its protagonist. A story very different from what we usually see in this genre. Unlike the previous one, I do think this anime is worth watching, especially if you're a fan of action. Based on the light novel series of the same name written by Shigeru Sagazaki and illustrated by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima, this animated adaptation was produced by Passione and Hayabusa Film. The anime tells the story of the now elderly Beryl Gardinant, a swordsman in his forties who has always trained and taught at the small dojo in his home. One day, he receives an invitation from the Order of Knights Liberion in the capital. This invitation, which he cannot refuse, will lead him to a very busy life.
Leaving aside its lengthy title, this anime manages to stand out from most works in the fantasy genre mainly because of its plot and protagonist. Instead of being yet another copy of the typical "hero's journey", what we see here is a series of adventures of a middle-aged man who is an expert with the sword and is hired to work as an instructor in the kingdom's capital. The fact that this time the protagonist is an older person and not a young person, as has always been the case, is something that already attracts attention. But his behavior and personality make him more interesting, as he is a quiet person who does not like to draw attention to himself and does not consider himself as good as he really is or is always "too old for this". Surrounded by his former students from his dojo, this character stands out in every confrontation, mission, or task he has in the capital thanks to his sword skills.
This fantasy and action anime not only has sword fights, jokes, and the occasional cliché, but also has moments that are quite impactful due to their execution and the development of each character. On the other hand, we have the animation, which impresses from the start with its high-quality details, drawing style, and visual effects that are not bad at all. Although some battles are made with 3D animation, I like that they have managed to disguise this as much as possible with excellent animation and details. The battles are the best, with excellent choreography and very exciting moments. The sound effects are not bad, as is the soundtrack, which manages to convey what is being shown at all times. In short, this is a perfect anime for those who like sword fights.
Personally, I give it a rating of 7.5/10 in terms of the fantasy and action genre.

Hablemos ahora de otro anime de fantasía y acción que personalmente me llamó la atención por su trama y su protagonista. Una historia muy diferente a la que comúnmente se ha visto en este género. A diferencia del anterior, este anime sí considero que vale la pena verlo, más que nada si eres fan de la acción. Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónimas escritas por Shigeru Sagazaki e ilustradas por Tetsuhiro Nabeshima, esta adaptación animada fue producida por Passione y Hayabusa Film. El anime nos cuenta la historia del ya mayor Beryl Gardinant, un espadachín y cuarentón que desde siempre ha entrenado y enseñado en el pequeño dojo que hay en su hogar. Un día, recibe una invitación por parte de la misma Orden de Caballeros Liberion de la capital. Dicha invitación que no puede rechazar lo llevará a tener una vida muy ajetreada.
Dejando de lado su extenso nombre, este anime logra diferenciarse de entre la mayoría de obras del género de fantasía principalmente por su trama y protagonista. En vez de tratarse de otra copia más del típico “camino del héroe”, lo que veremos aquí es una serie de aventuras de un señor cuarentón que es todo un experto con la espada y que es contratado para trabajar como instructor en la Capital del reino. El hecho de que esta vez el protagonismo se lo lleve una persona mayor y no un joven como siempre ha sucedido es algo que ya de por sí llama la atención. Pero su conducta y personalidad lo hacen más interesante al ser alguien tranquilo que no le gusta llamar la atención y que no se considera tan bueno como realmente lo es o siempre es “demasiado viejo para esto”. Mientras es rodeado por sus ex-alumnas de su dojo, este personaje llega a destacarse en cada enfrentamiento, misión o labor que tiene en la capital gracias a sus habilidades con la espada.
Este anime de fantasía y acción no solo tiene combates de espadas, chistes y uno que otro cliché común; sino que también posee momentos que consiguen impactar bastante debido a su ejecución y el desarrollo que tiene cada personaje. Por otro lado, tenemos el tema de la animación, la cual consigue impresionar desde un principio con una calidad muy buena de detalles, estilo de dibujo y efectos visuales que no están para nada mal. Si bien hay algunas batallas que están hechas con animación en 3D, me gusta que hayan conseguido disimular lo más posible esto con un excelente trabajo de animación y detalles. Las batallas son de lo mejor, con coreografías excelentes y momentos muy emocionantes. Los efectos de sonido no están mal, al igual que la banda sonora que consigue transmitir lo que se muestra siempre. En resumen, este es un anime perfecto para los que les gustan los combates con espadas.
Personalmente, me doy una calificación de 7.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía y acción.

The Too-Perfect Saint: Tossed Aside by My Fiancé and Sold to Another Kingdom
We continue with a fantasy anime that, honestly, I didn't expect to like so much in the end. With a tragic story that is also full of love, courage, revenge, and betrayal, this work, which appears similar to other generic anime, managed to become one of those underrated gems that are worth watching. Based on the light novel series of the same name written by Kōki Fuyutsuki and illustrated by Masami, this animated adaptation was produced by Troyca studio. The anime tells the story of Philia, one of the saints of this fantasy world. The saints are responsible for protecting and helping their people from evil and darkness. But Philia does much more than that in the kingdom of Zlitonia. To make matters worse, her fiancé and second prince, Julius Ziltonia, decides to break off their engagement and sell her to the neighboring kingdom of Parnacorta.
This is one of those stories that begins with a series of tragic and traumatic events that serve to develop the protagonist's character and grab the audience's attention from the start. However, beyond its premise, this story also has its romantic, happy, and action-packed moments, as well as its revenge, grudges, and hatred. These elements are always perfect for a fantasy work that seeks to tell something different from what has already been seen a lot in this industry. But what makes it better than the previous anime in this top list is that it is a story with everything and an ending. An ending that is excellent for this work. It also has a unique combination of romance, drama, and comedy that is not bad at all. It also has well-developed secondary characters with close relationships with the protagonist.
Unlike the latter, the villain or final antagonist does not make as much of an impact as the main antagonist (Julius), who is a complete threat. But hey, this is just one of several small details in the story that don't really affect the work itself. The same goes for the animation and audiovisual aspects, which are fine for an anime that very few people will have seen this season. The animation quality, details, character designs, visual effects, and color palettes are all very good. The same goes for the sound effects and soundtrack, which manage to heighten the emotions of each scene or moment as they should. While it's not the best you can find this season in terms of audiovisuals, it's at least decent enough to watch this anime.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 in terms of the fantasy and drama genre.

Seguimos con un anime de fantasía que, sinceramente, no esperaba que me llegase a gustar tanto al final. Con una historia trágica y a la vez repleta de amor, valor, venganza y traición; esta obra con aparente similitud a otros animes genéricos consiguió ser una de esas joyas infravaloradas que valen la pena ver. Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónimas escritas por Kōki Fuyutsuki e ilustradas por Masami, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio Troyca. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Philia, una de las santas de este mundo fantástico. Las santas son las que están encargadas de proteger y ayudar a sus pueblos del mal y la oscuridad. Pero Philia hace muchísimo más de eso en el reino de Zlitonia. Para colmo, su prometido y segundo príncipe, Julius Ziltonia decide romper con su compromiso y venderla al reino vecino de Parnacorta.
Esta es de esas historias que inician con una serie de eventos trágicos y traumáticos que no hacen más que darle un gran desarrollo de personaje a la protagonista y llamar la atención del público desde el principio. Sin embargo, más allá de su premisa, esta historia tiene también sus momentos románticos, felices y repletos de acción, así como también tiene su venganza, rencores y odio. Estos elementos siempre son perfectos para una obra de fantasía que busca contar algo diferente a lo que ya se ha visto mucho en esta industria. Pero lo que lo hace mejor que los anteriores animes de este top es que trata de una historia con todo y final. Un cierre que es excelente para esta obra. Además tiene una combinación única de romance, drama y comedia que no está para nada mal. También tiene sus personajes secundarios con buenos desarrollos y relaciones bien estrechas con la protagonista.
A diferencia de esto último, el villano o antagonista final no consigue impactar tanto como lo hace el antagonista principal (Julius) que sí es una completa amenaza. Pero bueno, este es solo uno de varios pequeños detalles que tiene la historia, pero que no afectan del todo a la obra en sí. Lo mismo sucede con la animación o su apartado audiovisual, el cual está bien para ser un anime que seguramente muy pocos habrán visto en esta temporada. La calidad de animación, los detalles, los diseños de personajes, los efectos visuales y las paletas de colores están muy bien. Lo mismo sucede con los efectos de sonido y la banda sonora que consigue elevar las emociones de cada escenario o momento como debe de ser. Si bien no es de lo mejor que se puede encontrar en esta temporada a nivel audiovisual, al menos es lo suficientemente decente como para poder ver este anime.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía y drama.

Witch Watch
Now it's time to talk about one of the anime series that attracted the most attention this spring season due to its unique blend of comedy, romance, and fantasy. A humorous work that manages to entertain anyone with its plot and its unique and unforgettable characters. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Kenta Shinohara, this animated adaptation was produced by Bibury Animation Studios. The anime tells the story of Nico Wakatsuki and her childhood best friend Morihito Otogi. One is a teenage witch and the other is an ogre who has been trained since childhood to be her guardian. The two meet again after some time when Nico starts living in the same house as Morihito. Although she has trained extensively, her magical abilities end up causing various problems in her daily life.
Of all the fantasy anime I've seen, very few have entertained me as much as Witch Watch. Especially since it's a teen RomCom hidden in a fantasy story. What I like is that its style of humor is not similar to the humor found in most anime of this style, as it doesn't need unnecessary clichés or embarrassing moments to always make you laugh. Its humor is more unique, mixing the bizarre with the extravagant, as well as different references, innuendos, and jokes about the manga/anime industry and popular culture. I also really like that the work focuses on developing and giving a certain prominence to the secondary characters, even though they end up being the main characters. The different personalities we get to know and the different cases in this anime make it both entertaining and unique.
And if that weren't enough, we also have to talk about the action in this anime. While it doesn't have many epic moments, the few encounters and battles we see in this work are among the best. The same goes for the theme of magic and the way they show us this fantastic and modern world. As for the animation, it's not the best in the world, but it is better than most of the anime on this list. The character design, drawing style, and excellent details in this series are evident. The same goes for its varied palette of bright, clear colors, as well as its visual effects and fluidity in certain key scenes. The sound effects are also very well done, as is the soundtrack. I really like the first opening, especially in terms of visuals. In short, this is a different anime for fans of fantasy or romantic comedy.
Personally, I give it a 9/10 rating in terms of the fantasy, comedy, and romance genres.

Ahora toca hablar de uno de los animes que más llamaron la atención en esta temporada de primavera debido a su mezcla particular de comedia, romance y fantasía. Una obra humorística que logra entretener a cualquiera con su trama y sus personajes únicos e inolvidables. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Kenta Shinohara, esta adaptación animada fue producida por Bibury Animation Studios. El anime cuenta la historia de Nico Wakatsuki y su mejor amigo de la infancia Morihito Otogi. Una es una bruja adolescente y el otro un ogro que ha entrenado desde pequeño para ser su guardián. Ambos se reencuentran después de cierto tiempo cuando Nico empieza a vivir en la misma casa donde vive Morihito. A pesar de que ella ha entrenado bastante, sus habilidades con la magia terminarán causando diversos problemas en su vida diaria.
De entre tantos animes de fantasía que he visto, muy pocos han llegado a entretenerme como lo hizo Witch Watch. Sobre todo al ser un RomCom adolescente escondido en una historia de fantasía. Lo que me gusta es que su estilo de humor no es parecido al humor que tiene la mayoría de animes de este estilo, ya que no necesita de clichés innecesarios ni momentos vergonzosos para siempre hacerte reír. Su humor es más particular mezclando un poco lo bizarro con lo extravagante, además de diferentes referencias, indirectas y chistes que tiene sobre la industria del Manga/Anime y la cultura popular. También me gusta mucho que la obra se centre en desarrollar y darle cierto protagonismo a los personajes secundarios, aunque estos terminan siendo personajes principales. Las distintas personalidades que vamos conociendo y los distintos casos que tiene este anime lo hace tanto entretenido como a su vez diferente.
Y por si no fuera suficiente, también hay que hablar del apartado de acción que tiene este anime. Si bien no tiene muchos momentos épicos, los pocos encuentros y batallas que vemos en esta obra son de lo mejor. Lo mismo sucede con el tema de la magia y la forma en la que nos muestran este mundo fantástico y moderno. En cuanto a la animación, no es la mejor del mundo, pero sí es mejor que la mayoría de animes de esta lista. El diseño de los personajes, el estilo de dibujo y los excelentes detalles que tenemos esta serie es evidente. Lo mismo sucede con su paleta variada de colores vivos y claros, además de sus efectos visuales y su fluidez en ciertas escenas clave. Los efectos de sonido también están muy bien hechos, al igual que su banda sonora. Me gusta mucho su primer Opening, más que nada en lo que respecta a lo visual. En fin, este es un anime diferente para los que son fanáticos de la fantasía o de la comedia romántica.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9/10 en lo que respecta al género de fantasía, comedia y romance.

Once Upon a Witch's Death
We conclude this list with another fantasy anime that surprised me quite a bit, more than I honestly expected. Another underrated gem from this year's already concluded spring season. A tragic yet fantastic story with characters and moments so emotional that they are difficult to forget. Based on the light novel series of the same name written by Saka and illustrated by Chorefuji, this animated adaptation was produced by the studio ETM Squared. The anime tells the story of Meg Raspberry, a young witch apprentice who, upon turning 17, learns from her teacher and guardian Faust that she has a terrible curse: she will die within a year. Thus, her life full of happiness and dreams is put at risk as she tries to collect the tears of a thousand different people in order to save herself in time.
I don't think I need to explain what hooked me on this anime. Both the premise and the first episode were reason enough to watch it until the end. And boy, was it worth it, as both the story and the different cases that make it up are full of emotions and simply incredible moments. It has a perfect blend of humor, fantasy, and drama that doesn't always achieve this effect and result in all apparent cases. Normally, anime of this type tend to exaggerate one thing and don't always manage to balance all the genres it has in a single story. However, in this case, we see that each episode focuses on a different story, with different characters and varied events. This helps to give both variety and good development and growth to the characters and the story itself. The messages and lessons that can be learned from each of these cases are among the best.
As for the characters, starting with the protagonist, she manages to stand out very well by proving to be a girl unlike others of her kind, with dreams, always cheerful, and with a way of thinking that makes her unique in her style. The same is true of the secondary characters, who are very well developed and each stand out in their own way. On the other hand, in terms of animation, I wouldn't say it's the best, but it manages to stand out well enough. With a colorful yet very detailed drawing style, the character designs and environments or landscapes are impressive. The visual effects and fluidity of this anime are also decent. The same goes for the sound effects. But the best thing about it is undoubtedly its soundtrack, which perfectly conveys every emotion in each episode. In short, this anime is perfect for those looking for a fantastic story that will make you laugh and cry at the same time.

Finalizamos este top con otro anime de fantasía que me sorprendió bastante, más de lo que esperaba sinceramente. Otra joya infravalorada de la ya culminada temporada de primavera de este año. Una historia trágica y a la vez fantástica con personajes y momentos tan emotivos que son difíciles de olvidar. Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónimas escritas por Saka e ilustradas por Chorefuji, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio ETM Squared. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Meg Raspberry, una joven aprendiz de bruja que, al cumplir 17, se entera por medio de su maestra y cuidadora Faust que tiene una terrible maldición: dentro de un año va a morir. Es así como su vida repleta de felicidad y sueños se pone en riesgo mientras consigue las lágrimas de mil personas diferentes para así poder salvarse a tiempo.
No creo que haga falta explicar qué fue lo que me enganchó de este anime. Y es que tanto esta premisa como su primer episodio fueron razones suficientes para verlo hasta el final. Y vaya que valió la pena ya que tanto su historia como los distintos casos que la conforman están repletos de emociones y momentos simplemente increíbles. Con una mezcla perfecta de humor, fantasía y drama que no siempre consigue este efecto y resultado en todos los casos aparentes. Normalmente los animes de este tipo llegan a exagerar mucho en una cosa y no siempre logran equilibrar todos los géneros que posee en una sola historia. Sin embargo, en este caso vemos que cada episodio se centra en una historia diferente, con personajes distintos y eventos variados. Esto ayuda a darle tanto variedad como también un buen desarrollo y crecimiento a los personajes y a la historia en sí. Los mensajes y las lecciones que se pueden aprender de cada uno de estos casos son de lo mejor.
En cuanto al tema de los personajes, empezando por la protagonista, logra destacarse muy bien al demostrar ser una chica diferente a las de su tipo, con sueños, siempre alegre y con una forma de pensar que la hace única en su estilo. Lo mismo sucede con los personajes secundarios, quienes están muy bien desarrollados y consiguen resaltar cada uno con su forma de ser. Por otro lado, en cuanto a la animación no digo que sea la mejor, pero consigue destacarse lo suficientemente bien. Con un estilo colorido y a la vez muy detallado en su dibujo, los diseños de los personajes y los entornos o paisajes. Los efectos visuales y la fluidez que tiene este anime también son decentes. Lo mismo sucede con los efectos de sonido. Pero lo mejor de todo es sin duda su banda sonora, la cual consigue transmitir de forma perfecta cada emoción que posee cada episodio. En fin, este anime es perfecto para los que buscan una historia fantástica que te haga reír y llorar al mismo tiempo.
