This is definitely one of the best anime series I've ever seen in my entire life. But don't let that fool you, because as I mentioned at the beginning, it's not for everyone. The anime itself has a warning message at the beginning of each episode stating that the topics it deals with are quite intense for certain types of people. If you're someone who cries easily, this anime can completely tear your heart apart and even make you lose the will to live. Even people with hearts of steel have found it difficult to watch this anime without shedding a tear or being moved in some way. It's one of those works that ends up being the complete opposite of what it appears to be at first glance.

This is something that is common in the anime industry: seemingly harmless works with a cute and innocent appearance, but which end up revealing a story that is quite strong and dark for anyone. And while there are many cases like this, Takopi's Original Sin is especially unprecedented. I'm not just talking about the heavy themes it deals with or the perfect way it mixes them with humor and cute, innocent animation. Rather, it's because of how popular it became during its broadcast this year. Reaching the top of several major internet lists, this work has managed to show us that no, not all anime are the same.

Definitivamente, este es uno de los mejores animes que he visto en toda mi vida. Pero que esto no los confunda, ya que como les he mencionado al principio, no es para todo tipo de público. El mismo anime tiene un mensaje de advertencia al principio de cada episodio donde dice que los temas que trata son bastante fuertes para cierto tipo de personas. Si eres alguien que llora por cualquier cosa, este anime puede desgarrarte el corazón por completo y dejarte sin ganas de vivir, incluso. Aún para gente con corazón de hierro les ha sido difícil ver este anime sin sacar una lágrima o impresionarse siquiera. Es de esas obras que terminan siendo todo lo contrario a lo que aparentan a simple vista.

The introduction and the first few minutes of the first episode of this anime are more than enough to give us a clear idea of where it's going. We meet a girl named Shizuka Kuze who is clearly being bullied at school. Then we meet Takopi, an octopus-like alien with a childlike mentality who only wants to make people happy. Seeing that Shizuka never smiles, Takopi tries hard to make her happy with his "Happy Devices". However, nothing works because the only thing that makes her happy is her dog Chappy.

We then see how Shizuka is the target of abuse, teasing, and mean pranks at her school because of Marina Kirarazawa and her friends. But that's not all. At home, she is completely ignored and neglected because her mother, the only family member she lives with, works night shifts. One day, after Takopi manages to make Shizuka laugh, she shows up at the park without Chappy, with only his leash in her hand and a bunch of bruises all over her body. What follows is... completely inexplicable. And that would only be the beginning of a long series of rather unfortunate events for a small, innocent, and happy being who only wants to make people smile.

Ya con la introducción y los primeros minutos del primer episodio de este anime son más que suficiente para que tengamos una idea clara de por dónde va la cosa. Conocemos a una niña llamada Shizuka Kuze que, evidentemente, sufre de bullying en su escuela. Luego conocemos a Takopi, un extraterrestre con apariencia de pulpo y mentalidad de niño que solo busca hacer feliz a la gente. Al ver que Shizuka no sonríe nunca, Takopi se esfuerza por hacerla feliz con sus “Dispositivos Felices”. Sin embargo, nada funciona ya que lo único que la hace feliz a ella es su perro Chappy.

Vemos después cómo Shizuka es el centro de maltratos, burlas y juegos pesados en su escuela por culpa de Marina Kirarazawa y sus amigas. Truly, there are very few animated works that have had such an impact and stirred such emotions in me as this anime has, and to a degree that is unimaginable. The work itself seems to seek to perfectly convey all the emotions and experiences lived not only by the children we meet throughout this story, but also by little Takopi who, if you remember, has the mentality of a child. I think the mixture of innocence on the part of an alien being and the human evil and cruelty that exists in this society is one of the most powerful things you can experience when watching this anime. Not only because everything Takopi does seems to make no sense, but also because each act triggers a series of increasingly unpleasant consequences.

What strikes me most about this anime is that most of the protagonists are children who, in one way or another, are incredible to see acting in such a way and with such malice. One would say that it is the opposite of what we hear in real life about the "innocence of children" and all that... until we realize the reasons why they are like that: their parents. One of the things that stands out in this story is how each character is just a reflection or a product of a series of physical, psychological, and emotional abuses they experience within their homes. Seeing the negligence of their parents, the way they are treated, despised, and ignored gives us a lot to think about as to why they are so selfish and irrational with others.

De verdad, hay muy pocas obras animadas que me han generado tanto impacto y emoción como lo ha conseguido hacer este anime y a un nivel que es inimaginable. La obra en sí parece buscar transmitir de manera perfecta todas las emociones y experiencias que viven, no solo los niños que conocemos a lo largo de esta historia, sino también el pequeño Takopi que -si bien lo recuerdan- tiene la mentalidad de un niño. Considero que la mezcla de inocencia de parte de un ser espacial y la maldad y crueldad humana que hay en esta sociedad es de lo más fuerte que se puede experimentar al ver este anime. No solo porque cada cosa que hace Takopi aparenta no tener ningún sentido, sino por cómo cada acto desencadena una serie de consecuencias cada vez más desagradables.

Lo que más me llama la atención de este anime es que la mayoría del protagonismo se lo llevan unos niños que, de alguna manera u otra, es increíble verlos actuar de tal manera y con tanta malicia. Uno diría que es todo lo contrario a lo que se escucha decir en la vida real sobre la “inocencia de los niños” y todo eso… hasta que notamos luego las razones del por qué son así: sus padres. Y es que una de las cosas que se notan bastante en esta historia es cómo cada personaje es solo un reflejo o un producto de una serie de maltratos físicos, psicológicos y emocionales que viven dentro de sus hogares. Ver la negligencia de los padres, la manera en la que son tratados, despreciados e ignorados da mucho en qué pensar de por qué son tan egoístas e irracionales luego con los demás.

Wanting to impress our parents or loved ones by pretending to be something we are not, seeking the affection and love of someone who is no longer there or does not think about us, allowing ourselves to be manipulated by someone who only seeks their own benefit, seeking to vent to others because of the mistreatment and abuse we have received at home... all this and more is what we see in this animated work.

I repeat, it is wonderful to see such a dense and profound story portrayed in such an authentic way as this anime does. But the most fascinating thing is that it does not seek to make you choose a victim and a culprit for everything that happens. Everyone, yes, everyone without exception, is both a victim and a culprit in one way or another. Both parents and children—even little Takopi himself—are all responsible for their own actions (some of which are even more serious than you can imagine). There are no finger-pointing, no heroes, no villains here, just human beings and special creatures with emotions, experiences, and traumas. We also see time and space travel, which makes it more interesting, of course.

La historia llega a escalar en niveles de crueldad, maldad, actos y temas que son bastante delicados de tratar. Pero aún así son cosas que no escapan del todo de la vida real, ya que son casos con los que, posiblemente, muchos de los que me leen ahora se sientan identificados o familiarizados de alguna u otra manera. Ya sea en casa, en la escuela o en el trabajo, todos hemos llegado a recibir de alguna manera una especie de maltrato y abuso, ya sea de manera física, verbal o psicológica. El querer impresionar a nuestro padres o seres queridos aparentando ser algo que no somos, el buscar el afecto y cariño de alguien que ya no está ni piensa en nosotros, el dejarse manipular por alguien que solo busca su propio beneficio, el buscar desahogarse con los demás a causa del maltrato y abuso que uno ha recibido en el hogar… todo esto y más es lo que vemos en esta obra animada.

Repito, es una maravilla ver que una historia tan densa y profunda sea retratada de una manera tan auténtica como lo hace este anime. Pero lo más fascinante es que no busca que uno escoja a una víctima y a un culpable de todo lo que sucede. Todos, así es, todos y sin excepción alguna son tanto víctimas como culpables de alguna u otra manera. Tanto los padres como los niños -y hasta el mismo pequeño Takopi- son todos responsables de sus propias acciones (algunas de estas acciones son incluso más graves de lo que te puedes imaginar). Aquí no hay señalamientos ni héroes ni villanos, solo seres humanos y criaturas especiales con emociones, experiencias y traumas. También vemos viajes en el tiempo y el espacio, lo cual lo hace más interesante, por supuesto.

It's incredible how much you can get out of this anime just by taking a closer look at its story. From bullying, educational neglect, and manipulation to dependence and excessive obsession. These psychological themes are quite well represented in each character, which makes them difficult to forget. And the best part is that, despite how short this anime is, each episode is a complete roller coaster of emotions, intense situations, fascinating moments, and plot twists so incredible that it's hard to pick a favorite. But what definitely affected me the most, apart from its incredible beginning, is the final outcome of this anime. Damn, it's incredible that a stupid little pink alien octopus made me cry like a baby, really.

Last but not least, let's talk about the audiovisual aspect of this anime. Produced by a practically new animation studio, I admit without a doubt that it is one of the best animated adaptations I have ever seen in my entire life. Both the aesthetics and the drawing and animation style are completely fascinating. The character designs, the color palette that varies from bright and vivid to cold and dark, the incredible transitions, the visual effects, and the fluidity are the most striking aspects of all. The same goes for the sound effects, which, from one moment to the next, really stand out. The soundtrack is also crazy, especially because of its almost always cheerful rhythm, in contrast to everything that is happening. In short, this is a pretty fascinating anime, but not recommended for everyone.

Personally, I give it a 10/10 rating in terms of the science fiction, drama, and suspense genres.

Es increíble la cantidad de cosas que uno puede extraer de este anime con solo ponerle la lupa a su historia. Desde el tema del bullying, la negligencia educativa y la manipulación; hasta la dependencia y obsesión desmedida. Estos temas psicológicos que trata esta obra están bastante bien representados en cada personaje, lo cual los hace difíciles de olvidar. Y lo mejor es que, a pesar de lo corto que sea este anime, cada episodio es una completa montaña rusa de emociones, situaciones fuertes, momentos fascinantes y giros de trama tan increíbles que es difícil escoger un favorito. Pero lo que definitivamente pienso que más me afectó, aparte de su increíble inicio, es el desenlace final de este anime. Rayos, es increíble que un pequeño y estúpido pulpo rosado extraterrestre me haya hecho llorar como un niño, de verdad.

Por último, pero no menos importante, hablemos ahora del apartado audiovisual que tiene este anime. A cargo de un estudio de animación prácticamente nuevo, admito sin lugar a dudas que es de las mejores adaptaciones animadas que he visto en toda mi vida. Tanto la estética como el estilo de dibujo y animación son completamente fascinantes. Los diseños de los personajes, la paleta de colores que varían de ser brillantes y vivos a ser fríos y oscuros; las increíbles transiciones, los efectos visuales y la fluidez que tiene es de lo más llamativo de todo. Lo mismo ocurre con los efectos de sonido que, de un momento a otro, llegan a destacarse bastante. La banda sonora es también una locura, sobre todo por su ritmo alegre que tiene casi siempre, en contraste con todo lo que ocurre. En fin, este es un anime bastante fascinante, pero no recomendable para todo el mundo.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 10/10 en lo que respecta al género de ciencia ficción, drama y suspenso.
