As you probably already noticed at the beginning of this post, I don't like to talk about generic anime full of clichés and unoriginal characters as it is the case this time. As I mentioned many times before with fantasy and Isekai anime, high school teen romantic comedy anime is one of the most exploited and unoriginal things that can be found in this industry nowadays. Surely those of you who have been reading my reviews for a long time are wondering: if you hate watching and talking about this kind of anime so much, then why do you keep making them? Well, the truth is that -besides having already gotten used to this- I consider that this kind of series with generic stories are like eating fast food. Yes, fast food is not always recommended as a main dish, but you can always enjoy it once in a while because of how delicious it is, even if it doesn't provide much nutritionally. The same thing happens with this kind of generic anime that do not bring anything original, but are easy to watch because of how predictable and common they are. It's the same thing that happens with Shōnen fighting animes that, even with their bunch of clichés and underdeveloped characters, are entertaining to watch. Of course, as long as they are well animated.

Como seguramente ya se dieron cuenta al principio de este post, no es de mi agrado hablar de animes genéricos y repletos de clichés y personajes poco originales como lo es el caso en esta ocasión. Así como lo mencioné muchas veces antes con los animes de fantasía e Isekai, los animes de comedia romántica de adolescentes de preparatoria es de lo más explotado y menos original que se puede encontrar en esta industria actualmente. Seguramente los que leen mis reseñas desde hace tiempo se preguntarán: si tanto detestas ver y hablar de este tipo de animes, ¿entonces por qué los sigues haciendo? Pues la verdad es que -además de ya haberme acostumbrado a esto- considero que este tipo de series con historias genéricas son como comer comida rápida. Si, no es recomendable la comida rápida como plato principal siempre, pero siempre se puede disfrutar de vez en cuando por lo deliciosa que es, aún si no aporta mucho nutricionalmente. Lo mismo sucede con este tipo de animes genéricos que no aportan nada de originalidad, pero que son fáciles de ver por lo predecibles y comunes que son. Es lo mismo que sucede con los animes Shōnen de peleas que, aún con su montón de clichés y personajes poco desarrollados, son entretenidos de ver. Claro, siempre y cuando estén bien animados.

As they begin to live in their new home together, life at school becomes increasingly difficult with so many secrets to hide, plus the tension and stress of living with a person of the same age and of the opposite sex with completely different tastes, habits and customs. But that's not all, Akane is also one of those people who engage in being dramatic, violent and distrustful of the people she hates (like our protagonist, for example). Of course, seeing Saitō at school with his younger sister who loves him very much and her best friend looking for opportunities to date him, Akane starts to feel something strange in her chest. Yes, we all know what this means by now.

Well, I don't know where to start complaining with this anime. Let's just say that the main plot of the young married couple living together is not that it's not a novelty within this genre of romance, but it's like another example of the typical story of the troubled couple who are forced to be together and eventually start to attract each other. While it's true that arranged marriages are commonplace in countries like Japan, that they do this with a RomCom anime is no surprise or novelty that appeals to people, really. Only if, of course, you like this specific type of anime. Otherwise, there's not much else to mention. In the case of the characters, starting with the protagonist, he doesn't have much to contribute beyond the fact that he comes from a rich family and is an outstanding student at his school. That his rival and arch nemesis is now his supposed wife and new life partner only makes said relationship get wrapped up in a back-and-forth of common clichés such as jealousy, unanswered statements, misunderstandings and awkward moments. In all these moments, Saitō Hōjō proves to be nothing more than the perfect example of the typical "ideal guy" that any high school girl would look for as a partner, nomás.

Empezando por su historia, consideremos lo que mencioné arriba sobre su trama. Vemos al típico personaje principal, Saitō Hōjō, como un miembro de una familia adinerada, pero con una vida aparentemente normal como cualquier otro estudiante de preparatoria. Luego de la sorpresa que le dió su abuelo y el acuerdo que tuvo que aceptar para así heredar la compañía que tiene, Saitō se encuentra en un aprieto en el cual está envuelta su compañera y peor enemiga de la escuela, Akane Sakuramori. Digamos que la trama principal de la pareja de jóvenes casados y viviendo juntos no es que no sea una novedad dentro de este género del romance, sino que es como un ejemplo más de la típica historia de la pareja problemática que es obligada a estar juntos y que con el tiempo empiezan a atraerse. Si bien es cierto que los matrimonios arreglados es algo común en países como Japón, que hagan de esto con un anime RomCom no es ningúna sorpresa ni novedad que atraiga a la gente, la verdad. Sólo si, claro está, te gusten este tipo de animes en específico. De resto, no hay mucho más por mencionar. En el caso de los personajes, empezando por el protagonista, no tiene mucho por aportar más allá de que proviene de una familia rica y que es un estudiante destacado en su escuela. Que su rival y archienemiga sea ahora su supuesta esposa y nueva compañera de vida solo hace que dicha relación se envuelva en un vaivén de clichés comunes como los celos, las declaraciones sin respuestas, los malentendidos y los momentos incómodos. En todos estos momentos, Saitō Hōjō no demuestra más que ser el ejemplo perfecto del típico “chico ideal” que cualquier chica de preparatoria buscaría como pareja, nomás.

In the case of Akane Sakuramori, I will only say that I detest her for her way of being and her behavior, to be honest. It's not that she's a bad character per se, but the theme of being the typical "Tsundere", dramatic, violent and archenemy of the protagonist is a role that I naturally hate to see in this kind of stories. But the worst thing is not that, but among so many common clichés that this anime has is also that of the typical younger sister of the protagonist who is in love with him. I don't think I need to say anything more about it than the obvious in this case and no, as much as it may seem like it, I don't think we're talking about the typical "sibling love" that is normal to see in common families. I don't know why on earth it's common to see this kind of sick cliché in anime of this style. The creators honestly have a serious problem with incest, really. Although they always excuse it with the typical argument they reveal at the end that "they're not blood brothers" or something like that. On the other hand, that this isn't the worst character on this list is already saying a lot, since Akane's younger sister is much worse. She just shields herself with the excuse of being sick, though that doesn't stop her from bringing trouble to the protagonist and her older sister at the worst times.

I think that if there is something good that this anime has to have, it is undoubtedly its animation, since it is something that can be appreciated from the beginning. But otherwise it's hard to find something good or positive in its story and characters. Even in its recurring style of humor full of bad or double meaning jokes, awkward moments or misunderstandings common in this type of anime. Not to mention the fanservice they sometimes try to show or hide in a sneaky way at certain moments. And if all this wasn't enough, let's not forget the clichés of love triangles, love declarations without original or accurate answers and dramatic moments that end in nothing as far as character development is concerned. Honestly, taking all this into account, it is normal for me to say that I can only recommend this anime if you really like the typical Japanese teenage high school romantic comedy. Because otherwise I don't recommend it to anyone looking for something entertaining or original in this genre. I only consider this case as a clear example of what you can mostly find nowadays in this industry full of generic and unoriginal works.

En el caso de Akane Sakuramori solo diré que la detesto por su forma de ser y su conducta, la verdad. No es que sea un mal personaje en sí, sino que el tema de ser la típica “Tsundere”, dramática, violenta y archienemiga del protagonista es un papel que naturalmente detesto ver en este tipo de historias. Pero lo peor no es eso, sino que entre tantos clichés comunes que tiene este anime también se encuentra el de la típica hermana menor del protagonista que está enamorada de él. No creo que haga falta decir algo más al respecto que lo obvio en este caso y no, por mucho que lo parezca, no creo que estemos hablando del típico “amor de hermanos” que es normal verse en familias comunes. No sé por qué rayos es común ver este tipo de clichés enfermos en animes de este estilo. Los creadores sinceramente tienen un serio problema con el incesto, la verdad. Aunque siempre se excusan con el típico argumento que revelan al final de que “no son hermanos de sangre” o algo así. Por otro lado, que este no sea el peor personaje de esta lista ya es decir mucho, ya que la hermana menor de Akane es mucho peor. Solo que se escuda con la excusa de estar enferma, aunque eso no evite que les traiga problemas al protagonista y a su hermana mayor en los peores momentos.

Creo que sí algo bueno que ha de tener este anime es sin duda su animación, nomás, ya que es algo que se puede apreciar desde un principio. Pero de resto es difícil encontrar algo bueno o positivo entre su historia y sus personajes. Incluso en su estilo de humor recurrente repleto de chistes malos o de doble sentido, momentos incómodos o malentendidos comunes en este tipo de animes. Eso sin mencionar el fanservice que a veces intentan mostrar u ocultar de manera sigilosa en ciertos momentos. Y por si no fuera suficiente con todo esto, no hay que olvidar los clichés de los triángulos amorosos, las declaraciones de amor sin respuestas originales o exactas y los momentos dramáticos que terminan en nada en cuanto a desarrollo de personajes se trata. Sinceramente, teniendo en cuenta todo esto, es normal que diga que solo puedo recomendar este anime si te gusta mucho la comedia romántica típica de japoneses adolescentes de preparatoria, la verdad. Porque de resto no se lo recomiendo a ninguno que busque algo entretenido o original en este género. Solo considero este caso como un ejemplo claro de lo que mayormente uno se puede encontrar actualmente en esta industria repleta de obras genéricas y poco originales.

Last but not least, let's talk about the one good thing about this anime. That's right, I already mentioned it above and that is its animation. Of course, we are not talking about a spectacular animation like Makeine, for example. But it is a nice animation to watch because of how colorful and well done it is, compared to many other romantic comedy anime that lack quality, to be honest. The character design, the vivid color palette, the common visual effects, the details in terms of drawing and passages is some of the best this anime has, visually speaking. The flow, while not the best, is also not lacking in this as a whole at times. The sound effects are fine, but nothing like the soundtrack that manages to set the mood for each episode and manages to convey the emotions it possesses without any problem. The Opening is not one of my favorites, but it's not that it's bad, the same goes for the Ending. In short, this anime is good for any fan of generic and common romantic comedy in the world of anime.

Personally, I give it a 7.5/10 rating as far as the romance and comedy genre is concerned.

Por último, pero no menos importante, hablemos de lo único bueno que tiene este anime. Así es, ya lo mencioné arriba y es su animación. Claro está, no estamos hablando de una animación espectacular como lo fue el caso de Makeine, por ejemplo. Pero sí es una animación agradable de ver por lo colorida y bien hecha que está, en comparación con muchos otros animes de comedia romántica que carecen de calidad, la verdad. El diseño de los personajes, la paleta de colores vivos, los efectos visuales comunes, los detalles en cuanto al dibujo y los pasajes es de lo mejor que tiene este anime, visualmente hablando. La fluidez, si bien no es de lo mejor, tampoco es que carece de esto en su totalidad a veces. Los efectos de sonido están bien, pero nada como la banda sonora que logra ambientar cada episodio y consigue transmitir las emociones que posee sin problema alguno. El Opening no es de mis favoritos, pero no es que esté mal, lo mismo sucede con el Ending. En resumen, este anime es bueno para todo fanático de la comedia romántica genérica y común en el mundo del anime, nomás.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7.5/10 en lo que respecta al género del romance y la comedia.
