Playing with shapes

Hello dear friends, it is a pleasure to share with you my experiences teaching my son from home, he is 2 years old but has been characterized by being curious and observant, he wants to learn everything and loves to play like any other child.

In a fun way I wanted to do an activity that makes him work his memory, also his motor skills so that his movements and those of his brain work together and develop well. I have learned since my son was born that educating them through games and activities that they like is much better than using screens and also that stimulating them in this way does not hurt them but rather helps them to regulate their emotions, their movements and I also feel that they begin to act more independent and make decisions even though they are young.

The power of education at home is often underestimated, but it turns out that this education is what will mark the rest of a child's life. By this I do not mean that those who do not do these things, these activities with their children are bad parents or that their children will not develop well, I mean is that every child is different and every thing you do as a parent are a teaching for him or her, as we spend more time with them and teach them we will see closely how they grow and the wonderful adults they are becoming.

This time I made a game for my son with recycling material, he knows the shapes but this game will help him to develop logic to handle frustration because he doesn't like to make mistakes and also to concentrate. I really enjoyed making this game, although I must admit that among all the shapes the star was quite difficult for me, I had to ask for help, the stars that I made seemed to have a fainting spell. But in the end we made it, my husband came to the rescue.

Materials:

  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Glue
  • Cardboard sheet
  • Scissors
  • Brightly colored paper
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Thick transparent plastic tape

Procedure:

  • We cut the cardboard to the desired size and shape.
  • Glue the toilet paper rolls with white glue, placing them side by side according to the desired distance.
  • Cut out the shapes by color of brightly colored paper, in my case I chose 5 shapes, you can choose the amount you want. At the end we have 20 shapes.
  • We take one of each of the shapes we cut out, a total of 5 shapes, and we glue it on the side, this is the one that will guide the child where he/she has to place the pallets with the different shapes.
  • To give strength to the figures that will be glued to the paddles, we use one or two rolls of paper and glue the figures on the cardboard and wait for it to dry.
  • To take care of the material with which the figures were made, we put the plastic tape to protect it from water.
  • We glue the shapes we cut on the pallets, in total there are 3 pallets per shape, there would be 15 in total. And we wait for them to dry.
  • Open three holes the size of the popsicles in each roll of paper and that's it.

When my son saw the game for the first time he was excited, when I explained to him what to do and showed it to him he did it too. He played with his new game until tiredness told him he needed to sleep.

Sometimes to entertain and learn they don't need big things, with patience and good disposition parents, that is to say each one of us can help our children to build their dreams and ours will be fulfilled along with theirs.

Thank you for reading me, I will be attentive to your comments.

Ohhh how sweet he is! 💓
Now I get really nostalgic 🥹 as I remember how many of these I did with my son. How fast time flies! 😭

I love your sorting activity here! I think its a really good one to start with small kids. Sorting colors, shapes, numbers or whatever else are one of the first activities to work on with such small children in order to develop their cognitive skills.

Thank you for your beautiful comment, I have heard a lot that phrase "they grow very fast" and it makes me nostalgic just thinking about it, so I want to take advantage of every moment and every detail and live it at the right time, not to get ahead but not to stop doing, that's why I found this activity interesting and fun. Sharing today with him, I get more out of the shapes and even in his imagination he did other activities that help him to have fun and at the same time learn. I will take into account your suggestions to use similar activities for the handling of numbers, colors and other basic things for his learning.

Lovely activity for the little man! It’s important for them to get this hands on and analytical activity early. Great job! He also did a great job :D

I described the activity in the same way, "lovely", when all the work had been done and my little one started to enjoy it, if he did and continues to do a great job, I feel proud of my baby, and I also perceive his ability to learn, to take advantage of the time, but without forcing the stages, everything in due time, but taking care of him at the moment. Thanks to you for the support and encouragement.

Yes my friend you are right many times assessment of education is undervalued at home. This reduces the experience of our family and children. Along with that out knowledge deteriorates. All activities should always be done to provide education to our children. Do children need small pegs or take things very seriously. Along with explaining good and bad, children should be given opportunities to gain experience. Always hope in God. I hope that you give your child the opportunity to gain experience. But as a mother, the responsibility of the child is very big which can only be done by the mother. May God bless you and your family always.

Very true your words, which I appreciate and thank you, we always include God in our lives and it is thanks to him that we have overcome many things. But it is also important to invest time and dedication to our little treasures, apart from instilling knowledge, it opens a window to consolidate their self-esteem and also the emotional bonds are strengthened, which will make them more confident and determined, even when they stumble, they will have tools to get up and improve. Thank you for your support, blessings to you and your family.
