Paracercion melanotum, also known as Cercion melanotum, is a species of damselfly in the family Coenagrionidae. This species is commonly found in Asia, particularly in countries such as China, Japan, and Korea. Damselflies are recognized by their distinctive black and blue coloration, with males predominantly blue while females exhibit a more subdued coloration.

Physical Characteristics
The physical characteristics of Paracercion melanotum include:

A slender body, typically ranging from 30 to 40 mm in length.
Males have a bright blue thorax and abdomen, with black markings on the thorax and black tips on the abdomen.
Females have a more muted coloration, with a greenish-yellow thorax and a black abdomen with yellow markings.
The wings of both males and females are transparent, with a distinctive black pterostigma (pigmented area on the leading edge of the wing).
Habitat and Behavior
Paracercion melanotum is typically found near slow-flowing bodies of water, such as ponds, lakes, and swamps. Damselflies are known to be active during the day, with males exhibiting territorial behavior to defend their mating sites. Females lay their eggs in vegetation near the water's edge, and the larvae develop in the water before emerging as adults. source

sourceiNaturalist is a citizen science platform and online social network that allows users to record and share observations about biodiversity, as well as assist in species identification. The platform allows users to upload photos or videos of plants, animals, and other organisms, which can then be identified by a community of other users. In addition, iNaturalist also has an automatic identification feature that uses computer vision to help identify species.
