Jatropha gossypiifolia
The red castor bean is native to tropical America, from Mexico to Paraguay, and the West Indies. It was introduced as an ornamental plant in West Africa and Malesia and is also frequently used as a traditional medicine in various countries, including Brazil, India, and the Americas. It is widely planted in rural Africa as a hedgerow, where it is believed to provide protection from fire.
