Abutilon /ə ˈ b juː t ɪ l ɒ n/ [ 3 ] is a large genus of flowering plants in the mallow family, Malvaceae . [ 4 ] It is distributed throughout the tropical and subtropical regions [ 5 ] of the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Australia. [ 6 ] Common common names include Indian mallow [ 7 ] and velvetleaf; [ 8 ] ornamental varieties may be known as room maple , parlor maple , or flowering maple . The genus name is an 18th-century Neo-Latin word [ 9 ] derived from the Arabic 'abū-ṭīlūn ( أبو طيلون ), [ 10 ] the name given by Ibn Sina to this or a similar genus. source
