What Success Means to Me
Good morning friends on Hive. It's been a while I was here. It's holiday and I have some more time to myself. Starting-off, I saw this writing prompt by @indiaunited and it was appealing to lend my voice.
What Success Means to Me
When people talk about success, the first images that often come to mind are wealth, fame, or professional achievements. While these may be measures of accomplishment, I have come to define success differently. Perhaps this was not my view years ago, but I grow, I've turned to see life from a better lens and this informs my perspective.
For me, success is found in the quality of relationships I build and nurture. Relationships are, in my view, the greatest assets one can possess because they enrich life in ways money or titles never can. Some relationships are not the ones we can choose like family, etc, but other relationships require our intentional effort to build.
I see true success not just about what I can acquire, but about who I can journey through life with. A supportive family, genuine friends, mentors who guide, and people I can inspire or help. All these categories what of relationships form the backbone of a meaningful existence. Without healthy relationships, achievements often feel hollow. What is the joy of reaching a great milestone if there is no one to celebrate it with? What is the point of acquiring wealth if it isolates rather than connects?
I see relationships as a kind of wealth that cannot depreciate with time, but instead multiplies when invested in wisely. They provide emotional strength during life’s storms and multiply joy in moments of celebration. Unlike material possessions, which can be lost overnight, quality relationships often outlive challenges and sustain a person through the highs and lows of life.
Furthermore, relationships are also the breeding ground for growth and transformation. I become better by interacting with people who stretch my thinking, challenge my weaknesses, and inspire my strengths. Every meaningful connection sharpens me in some way, just as iron sharpens iron. To me, that ongoing exchange of love, wisdom, and support is far more valuable than any personal trophy.
Of course, building and maintaining quality relationships requires intentionality. It takes time, sacrifice, humility, forgiveness, and consistent effort. But this investment always yields the richest returns. The people I love and the lives I touch are, in the end, the truest reflection of my success.
So when I define success, I don’t count my possessions, titles, or bank balance. Instead, I count the relationships that bring meaning to my life. If at the end of the day I can say I loved well, inspired others, and was surrounded by genuine connections, then I consider myself truly successful.
