The Story Behind My Username: Nanawrites
A few usernames I come across mostly mean something, while some usernames are funny, others carry a huge impact, and a story behind them. My username is Nanawrites, and believe me, it didn’t just drop from the sky. It all started with my real name "Ndianabasi." If you are from my tribe, you can pronounce it well, smooth like butter.😄 But the moment someone outside my tribe tries it, wahala starts. 😂 I have heard all sorts of creative and funny versions of my name. People call me Indiana, Adiana, Diana, and even one person boldly called me Banana. (Can you imagine? What have I not heard in this life?😂) Imagine me correcting people over and over again, at some point, I just gave up.
(My expression whenever I'm being called Indiana, Adiana, or Diana)
That’s where Nana came from. My cousin first started calling me that, and it just stuck. Short, sweet, and stress-free. Plus, I later discovered that in some cultures abi countries "Nana" actually means grace or mercy. Not a bad deal, right? From then on, life became a bit easier for me because work, my boss didn’t need to twist his tongue, and my new friends didn’t have to stress over syllables. Everyone just called me Nana.
But how did I end up with Nanawrites?🤔 Now that’s another one there. When I joined Hive, I needed a username. I sat down thinking hard like I was preparing for an exam. I wanted something cool, unique, and still connected to me. But nothing was coming. That’s when my coach, @hiveenthusiast, just looked at me and said: “Go for Nanawrites.” At first, I didn’t like it. It felt too plain. I wanted something more mysterious or fancy. But I eventually accepted it. And funny enough, today I can’t imagine using any other name. It fits me perfectly because writing is what I do and what I love. I am a creative writer, and every time I see Nanawrites, it reminds me of my passion.
Would I change it if I had the chance? Honestly, no. It has grown on me. It has become a part of my identity, and I think people on Hive already recognize me with it. Besides, usernames are like nicknames, once people start calling you that, it’s almost impossible to shake it off so yeah.. I'm stuck with it.
That is the story behind my username. From the struggle of correcting people who called me Indiana Jones😂 to adopting a simpler form of my name, and finally landing on a username that truly represents what I do. It wasn’t carefully crafted in some deep way, but it came together naturally. Currently, Nanawrites is not just a name, it’s a part of me and my writing.
P.S: All photos are mine, with the first and the last being designed with canva.🥳
Oh so they did call you Indiana Jones. While reading this from the beginning, I tried pronouncing the name and all I could think as I did was Indiana Jones. Just to let you know, if I was among your friends I would have been the chief converter of your name to Indiana Jones 😄😄.
Well, thankfully you found something nice, simple and meaningful. The username is nice. It evidently identifies with your passion.
Hehehehe.....😃
Thank you for engaging.🤭

You're welcome.
I tried pronouncing your original name and it felt like I was only twisting my tongue!LOL
A lot of us here in Nigeria answer Nana short for Nanahawau, Nanawrite is a cool username, easy to pronounce and simple to remember.
Our username eventually became part of us, I won't change mine either.
I'm curious, what tribe are you from?
