The old living library

This particular place was on my way from Istanbul to a hill station called Bursa in Turkey. We were on a day excursion to Bursa taking multiple halts on the way and seeing places. My tour guide had included this destination saying I will enjoy it, and when he told me about it, I was also eager to see. This is the place where there is a Tree which is 600+ years old. It is said to be almost 650 years old, a Maple Tree.

This also reminds me of my holiday to Iran where I had visited a site of Cyprus Tree which is estimated to be more then 4000 years old and one of the oldest trees in the world. So, compared to that this one is much younger. The difference for me was, that Cyprus Tree I could only see from far as they have cordoned up the whole area for visitors and you can only see it from a distance, which is quite big. One cannot really feel the size of it with the distance.

This one, I could feel it and touch it, which made it special. I was feeling so elated with the whole experience of touching it and feeling it for real myself. Something so old, which must have witnessed so much of history of that place and I get to feel it is an amazing experience. It's like going back in time with it. Right now with autumn progressing there are no leaves on the trees. In a month or two it will be lively again with new leaves and I am sure it will look very attractive.

It's super huge and right now with no leaves on it, I could actually see how much it has grown out. The lower branches have been falling down with it's own weight so they have been given support to not let it damage. This is my first time seeing a Tree so huge.

These are the supports on all the lower branches which are falling down with the weight.

That's the information of the Tree, here it says 610 years old and my guide told me that this was installed some 3 decades back so with that the age of the Tree is now somewhere between 640 and 650 years old.

The best feeling I had while hugging it. In front of it I was feeling so small and insignificant of myself.

Simply magnificent. Even the structure of the tree inspires admiration and reverence. The many branches it has and the different direction it has spread towards mirrors the passage of time and myriad of experiences that happened across it. Really really wonderful to look at :)

Absolutely, we have not lived in those times but still witnessing and feeling something this old does take us back in time and makes us feel connected to it.

Wow, hugging a tree that old must have felt so special, almost like the magical forest movies. The way its branches stretch out is amazing. Nature really makes you feel small sometimes. The photos are also very clear and on point

It's a beautiful feeling, and anyways I love hugging trees, so when something this old comes through it feels like I am hugging my ancestors.

I have read of trees older to this one and also seen one which is 4000 years old, Cyprus tree in Iran. But then touching it is a different feeling all together.

I think it has been there since the beginning of the earth and this tree is so beautiful because time has passed but the tree has remained standing

No, it's not been there since beginning of the earth :-) then it would be billions of years old. It's 650 years old
