The Green Banking score
Yesterday I received this message from my Bank about my green banking score. Something very new to me and I received it for the first time. And this makes me understand that almost every organization is working towards sustainability and reducing carbon foot print, which is a good thing. I am heavily invested in this initiative in the company where I do HR free lancing so it does matter to me a lot. Though after reviewing my score I am not very impressed with myself on my eco-friendly actions and I have to take some actions in future when it comes to banking to reduce my carbon footprint.
My score is 250, I am not sure what is the overall score and this 250 is from mow much because that's not mentioned. But they did send me my graph and I am still at the beginning line. There is lot of action needed from my side to be on the greener side.
My score is 250, so I am still in the first category and missed the second one just by 1 point. The fact is that I was not even aware and carried out my banking activity to an extent very mindlessly. Doing more online transactions will probably increase my score. Though I am not going to fall for this 100% also, because then there are some actions where they want to promote their own apps. My goal is to be in the eco-warrior position.
It's good to follow sustainable environment practices but in the banking sector it can become tricky. While online transactions are easy, I also prefer to do some cash transactions for that I need to withdraw cash on and off from the account. Also here in Mumbai not every where online payments are accepted. Like the cab drivers, very few of them accept UPI payments whereas majority of them want cash. They are small income earners and they live their life on daily wages so it's inconvenient for them to keep visiting the bank and prefer cash. Some may not even have a bank account or a debit card. Going paperless is good but I may not be able to evade it completely.
Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸
I would personally choose an eco-conscious position. I should accept only those things that is within my control, but I will pay attention to external limits as well.
I would agree with you that app-driven motivation these days are highly commercialized, so even though it happens to be for a green cause, institutional power is shaping the behaviors in the name of process and progress.
Immanuel Kant: act as if your choices could universalize a sustainable world.
True, this is what I too believe that in the name of nature and environment these institutions are driving towards fulfilling their own agendas.
I think what the bank is doing is a good initiative even though most times it's also for their own benefits.
I think no matter how advanced we become there are still some small business owners that would still prefer cash to mobile transfers, we also have a lot of them here in my country
Some of it can be considered, but as you say some of it is also for their own benefit, so one needs to understand that and avoid. I too prefer cash transactions many times.
I worry a bit on the tricky part and how it will evolve over time, in terms of access to banking facilities based on the rank. I definitely think is a good initiative overall, taking care if the environment in a sustainable way should be a priority for us all.
These in a way are also measures towards a controlled economy where every transaction can be tracked. I would not adhere to all of them, and would only use what's convenient for me.
Exactly, make the best out of it without getting too entangled into the system :)
Nice to see banks finally tracking this stuff. Really makes you think about those small daily choices. Good on you for taking it seriously, we all gotta start somewhere
Yes, it's good for the banks getting actively involved in it and at the same time they should not make these initiatives tools to control the account holders transactions
