Lake Schwarzsee is a small lake that you will find at the base of Matterhorn. It's a beautiful rugged place and must explore on either of your way up or down to Matterhorn. I visited this place while descending from Matterhorn. We had to change cable cars while descending and one of the changing point was Schwarzsee. The altitude of this lake is at around 8400 ft, which is not much. There is a chapel also near this lake side, but I did not visit that.
There is an interesting story of this Chapel. Two people had lost their way on this path and they had pledged that if they would get out safe they would build a chapel in this place and that's how the chapel was made. This lake is also known as the black lake since the surface of this lake is very dark.
The views are simply amazing of this place. When I reached the lake there were few people around, they seem to be having a long day plan in this place. Thankfully they were there so I could ask them to click some of my pictures :-)

The weather was nice so I had not trouble walking up to the Lake. The distance from the cable car station to the lake is around a 10 minutes walk, and you need to be careful while walking it up since there is lot of ice on the way which makes it slippery.
To look at it, it's amazing but to walk on it is very risky.

Love the views of this place, they are so breathtaking. Hubby did not walk up to the lake, he has breathing issues so he stayed back at the cable car station. I spent some time at the lake and headed back up again.

Even if he will have strength, he will not, because he is too lazy when it comes to walking up....haha
