My House Story - Installation of the Septic Tank

First of all before I start I will like to wish all my Indian friends a very Happy Dusshera, may the goodness always win over the evil and more power to that.

Today I will like to talk about an important aspect in the house building. We pay a lot of attention to how the interiors of our home looks, but before that we need to get our basics very well done.
When we buy a ready house, we do not bother much how it is made, where are the outflows, how the inflows are planned and what not. You may think that of all the things I am writing about the Septic Tank. But yes, it is a very important part in the house planning, this is where all the waste goes and hence needs to ensure that it is made properly and does not give any issues over a period of time. It is not something that you would keep doing regularly. You make it one time and then maintenance work keeps happening. Also, the area where you get it done is important, because in future if it needs to be opened up completely then the area has to be open enough to do the work.

There are different types of Septic Tank, you can get ready ones in plastic, steel or fibre glass, but we chose to go the conventional way of making a brick and concrete one, they last longer and they are better than the others. For those who do not know what is a Septic Tank, to tell you in brief, it is an underground chamber made for sewage treatment.

I had no idea of how this tank is made, and of-course no common person knows it, I do not even need to learn it, but it's always good to understand how something is made in your home. A Septic tank has 3 parts, which are a solids, effluent and scum layer. This is very technical, so I am going to paste this information from the web.

Solids settle at the bottom of the tank and scum floats to the top. Inside the tank, microorganisms get to work decomposing the solids and organics. The middle layer is the effluent, which is clear liquid that eventually exits the tank via a transport line, either going to the drain field or possibly stopping by a sand filter, depending upon the type of system installed.

This is what it looks like. It's not yet complete.

You will see there are different sections to it.

It's going to be underground so not that something you can see from the outside and hence it's all the more important to do it well, because you cannot keep digging the ground every now and then.

In a couple of days, the work will be completed and then the remaining part of the pit will be filled up with sand. On top of this area, I plan to have a lawn. I would like to keep this part open so that in future if ever there is any work to be done and this part needs to be dug up then it's easy.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸

That's interesting, are you an architect. These things have so much complexities, not easy for lay man to understand.

That's true, it does not happen overnight and doing it in haste can ruin things.

I think people from India love to take their cultures seriously
Also, the tank will be a good one when done
I can't wait to see it

The old methods and systems are proved ones and we know we can rely on them with full trust, so I would always prefer to go with that. And at the same time I am also open to explore new technologies if I can get my trust in it

You are right, it is most important to have wisdom before doing any work. Because whatever we are making, we should have knowledge about it, only then it can become good. Thanks for sharing 🙏

Knowledge and expertise both go hand in hand. We may not have expertise of the work but having some basic knowledge will allow us to be in control
