He finally gets his own swipe
It has been a long time since I have been asking my husband to get a credit card here in Muscat. It has been 10 years now and finally he got his first credit card, not only here in Muscat but this is his first ever credit card. He does not believe in using a credit card. But I have been coaxing him to get as there are quiet a lot of benefits that can be availed with the use of Credit card. Having a credit card does not mean one has to do unnecessary expenses. I have had a credit card since a long time and it has been extremely useful for me.
I always budget before I spend on the card, it's just that instead of paying upfront I pay on the card and accumulate points and then use it to spend on shopping. A couple of months back, I had some good amount of points accumulated and I converted them all to Amazon shopping vouchers from which I could buy my home utilities stock of 2 months and some more things also. In the past, I have paid a part of my credit card payment with the points itself. And once I have also managed to pay 75% payment on a laptop purchase through the points.
So if there is a benefit then why not get something in return on your spends. A couple of years back when hubby was hospitalized, I could pay the entire bill on the card and accumulate good amount of points. 2 years back I got my home built up and almost everything I purchased on credit card and accumulated my points. On all instances, I have first budgeted the spending amount, so then in the billing cycle I pay it off and there is no delay in payment.
The problem happens when the payment is not done on time and then there are hefty late payment fees. But if the payment cycle is well maintained then using a credit card will give many rewards. Here in Muscat on certain cinemas there are certain bank offers where you buy one ticket and get another free by paying through credit card. Hubby is an old school on these things and he feels that credit card is a liability. Yes, it can become if not handled well. But if you are matured enough with it's use then it is not a liability but it is rewarding.
He has got the card, now let's see how much he actually uses it. 2 days back we went for some grocery shopping and I asked him to pay by card and he refused :-). Old habits die hard :-)
Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸

A credit card is a good to use if we use it responsibly. Congratulations to your husband
Absolutely. Thank you
I’m with you on this. A credit card isn’t the problem, the behavior is. Used carelessly, it’s a trap. Used with discipline like you described budgeting first, paying in full every cycle, it becomes a tool.
True, discipline is important when we use such facilities
What a great milestone! The benefits you mentioned like rewards and travel perks make it way easier to manage expenses responsibly, did he choose one with no annual fee or just rewards that align with his spending habits? That might help ease him into using it.
