Functional Medicine gaining popularity
There are so many domains now in the medicine field and we have a choice of what we want to go ahead with when we have any health condition. There is no doubt that the conventional allopathy works the fastest but at the same time it only takes care of treating the symptoms and never goes in-depth of examining the symptoms and curing them from root level. If you have sugar, you will be put on a life long medication for insulin control, if you have high or low blood pressure again it's the same, there will be a medication prescribed to you which you will need to take life long to keep the symptoms in control. If you stop taking the medications, the symptoms are again going to flare up.
Then there are alternative medicine practices which is also a big umbrella and covers, homeopathy, ayurveda, herbalism and in the recent times Functional Medicine is also gaining popularity and I find it a good replacement to the conventional medicine system. I have tried Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Herbalism all of these, and they are all fabulous but personally they have not suited me much. Herbalism still works with me, but there are some herbs which lately I could figure out I am allergic to, like Curcumin. It is a powerful medicinal herb but sadly it's not going very well with my body.
My Son has been practicing Functional Medicine since some years and since last 1 year I have also been connected with it for some of my own health symptoms. I do not have any such health conditions, but I keep doing my blood work regularly and work on any vitamin and mineral deficiency in my body. Before the actual health condition occurs to us the roots of it have already started taking place months or sometimes even years in advance. With Functional Medicine system, Functional Genetic tests are done and these roots of diseases starting to take place in our body are identified. In Functional Genomic analysis cluster of genes are looked into in which there are mutations and then those are associated with the health symptoms of current diseases of for any risk in future and based on that the treatment is advised. Functional medicine is a holistic form of treatment which is based on science and technology.
The treatment with Functional medicine is majorly through supplements and lifestyle changes. In the analysis also what the body is allergic to is identified so that prevents from taking any wrong supplementations. In India till Covid, Functional medicine had not gain much of popularity but now in the last few years more and more people are turning towards it. The Genetic tests gives an in-depth insight on the health condition and allows to treat any symptoms from the root level.
But like everything there are always 2 sides of the coin, and so does Functional Medicine also. It's a very effective treatment if done in a preventive manner. If the health condition is in a very advanced stage then it may not be the best method of treatment. This system works slowly so for someone who is already at a very advanced stage in their health condition, this may not be an ideal solution and will have to continue with the conventional practices, but at the same time they can also start working with functional medicines and over a period of time can see improvement in the condition. Also it needs patience so if there is someone who lacks that and wants instant fix then functional medicine is not for them.
Other drawback is it is on the expensive side. The Genetic tests are expensive and so are the supplements for treatment. So unless it becomes more of a regular affair still people will be hesitant. For e.g. if someone has regular cough and cold problem, in conventional medicines you may just continue taking antibiotics and get relieved from the symptoms, which will be a very economical way of treatment. Now, if the person shifts towards Functional Medicine, firstly they will have to go through a series of Genetic tests for the root level of it to be identified and then there will be supplements that will be advised, which can be just not one or two but many of them and they will always be expensive then the regular antibiotics.
But we need to look at a life long medication vs a fixed period treatment which functional medicines provides, and then decide which one to go for.

Knew about Functional Medicine for the first time in this post.
It's gaining popularity now in India also since it's a very safe way of treating long term ailments from root level provided one has patience and also willing to spend extra to what they would on conventional medicines
The treatment with Functional medicine is really necessary to handle and take note of
